    1. Re: [EVANS] John and Nettie Evans
    2. Beverly Thomas
    3. I haven't posted in several months so I thought I would try once again, maybe someone has the information that I need to find John Evans and his wife, Nettie (LNU). John and Nettie are my gggrandparents, they were the parents of my ggrandfather, Robert Lee Evans, who was born abt. 1870 in Virginia or Washington, D.C. Robert's census info for 1900 says he was b. in D.C. as was his parents. His marriage record says place of birth was Virginia. With a name of Robert LEE, I was thinking maybe Virginia and he may have been named for General Robert E. Lee. I can not find John and Nettie in the census, the closest I came to finding a John Evans was in Rockingham Co., Va with wife, HETTIE. John was b. in Washington and Hettie was b. in Maryland. This was the 1870 Rockingham Va census, they did not have any children in their household for 1870 OR 1880 census. So I am putting them aside as the parents of Robert, for now. This John Evans was a drummer for VMI, he was not a cadet. I was able to obtain a little info from VMI regarding John and Hettie. I am hoping that someone who is also researching the EVANS surname may have some information that would be of some help to me. John and Nettie are such a huge brickwall for me that I am completely baffled as to where to go next. My ggrandfather, Robert Evans, d. in 1903 in Fayette Co., WV and I can't find a death record for him in WV so that route is closed to me. ANY help or leads would be very much appreciated, Bev

I found a funeral home listing for another sibling of Vivian's (this brother died in 1949), so Vivian was still living at that time. I feel like someone had to keep in contact with her for a while anyway, but I don't know who. Her last sibling died in 1998, & before this sibling died she gave her children some info on her other siblings, but only listed Vivian & her husband's names, so she must have lost contact with them also. We found the child, Miss Opal Evans, listed in the obit for Vivian's father (William Hartwell Carmon) in 1945, listing her as helping with flowers along with several other cousins. There are a couple of other Evans connections in my husband's family, so I am trying to find out if Lynwood (or Linwood) was connected to any of those people, since I know so little - maybe they met thru them or something. Thanks for responding & I would appreciate any possible clues I can pursue. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I was Lois Evans then of course (Ken's daughter). My mum, Phyl, is still alive at 85 and after a somewhat disasterous first marriage, I'm now married to Terry and we have two sons, Adam Kenneth (16) and Owen Terence (13). I've been researching the family for about five years now. Cousin Sandra (Doreen's daughter) passed on a letter from Lynette in about 2004-5 and I replied with some family history details I had. I haven't heard anything recently though. It was interesting to read your posting as it filled in a few gaps about Lindon Bowen Evans which I didn't know, such as Minnie's surname. If you give me your email and snailmail addresses I can share what I've found so far (and hopefully likewise!). We were over in Oz in March-April visiting Terry's younger brother Paul and his family in Perth and whilst there I met up with Bea Latham, a relative on the Lowe side. Between us we had already discovered that great-great grandfather Henry Lowe married a Bridget Drugan (or Droogan, or any other spelling variation you can think of) who hailed from County Fermanagh in NI. Have you found out any of this? Do reply. All the best, Lois Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. A couple of sites that may help you are _www.Ancestorhunt.com_ (http://www.Ancestorhunt.com) go to the Michigan site. The other is _www.deathindexes.com_ (http://www.deathindexes.com) go to the Michigan site. I don't know if you have Ancestry, but I did take a peek at Helen's line and in 1920, they are still where they lived in 1910 with Arthur still living with them and they now have a daughter Arlene. I had to do a soundex search because it was read as Boan and not Roan. If you do have Ancestry, if you put in Arlene Roan, under Family tree, under Public family lines you will find some information on Helen's line. Hope this helps. Rhonda **************Need a new ride? 2. Hi, I sent you several census records in hopes one might be your Arthur. I think the last one might be correct but not sure. I, also, have an Arthur Evans in my family tree from Ohio. No relation to yours. Although if Richard EVans is the father of Arthur you might be in the same line. I have found when looking for someone that you know is there and you can't find them to try all spellings and initials and states where born, etc. Sometimes you hit pay dirt. The last is from 1950 and Arthur was born in 1954 or 1953. My Uncle found out the year. But my uncle passed away. Anyway thanks every little helps. I am sure he was born in WI. Thanks again. 3. Hi, Previously I sent an email mentioning that the book, The Descendants of the Drummer Boy, Edward Evans of Virginia, copyright 2003 might be republished if there were enough interest. Background: Edward served in the forces during the French and Indian War and is documented in the Archive Records of George Washington! Other documents state that he served in the Revolutionary War. In any case, I received an email from Charleen this morning that she has enough orders to do the printing. As we don't know when this might again happen in the future, I wanted to let everyone know that this is an opportunity to get a copy for the foreseeable future. Here is the necessary information: "I will be meeting with the printer to get this order ready soon. I would hope to have these ready and in the mail to you by the end of May. <>Should anyone out there wish a copy of this book, now is the time to get the order and check into the mail. Thanks to all of those who have completed their orders. <> $38 includes cost of printing and postage. Send to Charleen Evans-Thomas, Ed, Descendant of the Drummer Boy: Edward Evans <> 8 Pine Shadows Trail, Ormond Beach, FL 32174-8296"

His children have some unusual names, and I was hoping that some of these names might have been passed down in the family, making it easier to find the right family.
