This has showed up on the Newspaperarchives web site: http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/link.php?action=detail&id=59322 <http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/link.php?action=detail&id=59322> The Quincy Daily Journal Contributed by Judi Gilker Find Your Ancestors Given Name: Family Name: Print Save to List Discussion (0) E-Mail Report Description: "Death of Mrs. Morgan" (nee Evans) Widow of the Late Gen. James D. Morgan at Her Home on East Vermont. Date: November 3 1897 Newspaper published in: Quincy, Illinois Source: Newspaper Page/Column: page 8 Mrs. Harriet Morgan, widow of the late General James D. Morgan, passed peacefully away in death at her home at 1420 Vermont at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The deceased had been in poor health for the past and last summer spent the season at the seashore with the family of her nephew, Mr. George Wells. She seemed somewhat improved on her return home, but gradually grew weaker with the approach of cooler weather and the end came very quietly. Many who know Mrs. Morgan will grieve for her as a friend of kindly impulses, sweet disposition and gentle manners. At the time of death she was 74 years of age. The deceased was a pioneer of Quincy and when in a reminiscent moos could tell tales of much interest concerning the trails and vicissitudes of life in the early days of our city. The was the youngest daughter of the late Capt. Robert Evans of Massachusetts, and was native of that state. June 14, 1860, she was married to James D. Morgan who preceded her in death in September, 1896, a little over a year ago. She was the second wife of Gen. Morgan, and late Mrs. Edward Wells was her only sister. A nephew, George Wells, and two nieces, Mrs. Ella Wells Smith and Miss Kate Wells, all of this city, survive her. Since the close of the summer Mrs.Morgan had made her home with Miss Wells, previous to this having occupied the old Wells and Morgan homestead at 421 Jersey street. Mrs. Morgan was a member of the Unitarian Church in this city and was associated actively with much good work done by the women of that congregation. Her death will cause sorrow to the members to whom she was near and dear. Submitted: 08/02/08

    1. [EVANS] Evans Famly Bible of Alstead New Hampshire on Ebay
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: calliesdream Surnames: Evans Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.evans/10041/mb.ashx Message Board Post: While perusing family bibles on Ebay I came across an old family bible from Alstead, New Hampshire for the Evans family, circa 1700's. Following is the info I copied from the bible: Family bible printed in 1784 by Alexander Kincaid (Edinburgh, Scotland), 8" x 10" hardcover (leather on boards). The bible itself is in poor condition, missing many pages (including the title page) and with many other pages damaged. Two pages contain family records for the family of Nathaniel Evans (b. 1736), who died in 1815 in Alstead, New Hampshire, where he had been one of the town's first merchants in the late 1700s. His wife, Thankfull, died in 1820 at age 65. One page lists the births of 10 children, born between 1759 and 1783, and the deaths of two of those children. The bottom half of this page, which contained additional records, has been removed, and the records for two of the children are partly obliterated by a tear. A second page lists the deaths of Nathaniel and Thankfull Evans, Henry Wright of Ashby, Massachusetts (1806), and nine Tuttles and Chandlers (between 1816 and 1847). The bible comes directly out of an old Alstead farmhouse. Item # for the auction is 110274129250 . Hope the right people get this bible.
