    1. Re: [EVANS] Mary Ann Evans/William Wear May
    2. Martha, your email got me excited. Thomas J. Evans and his first wife Henrietta Clayton are my 2nd g-grandparents. How did you find and connect Thomas to Aaron? I haven’t been able to find anything definite on his parents, but thought he might be the son of William Evans and Sela Dunn of Georgia. Thomas named one of his girls Sela, so assumed she was named after his mother. Also, he lived next to William M. (1860 census) who is the son of Wm and Sela, so I thought he might be a brother, and he named his first son William M. Excerpt from Goodspeed’s History of Mississippi: “One of the most prosperous planters, as well as one of the largest landowners in the county of Itawamba, is William M. Evans, who was born in Georgia in the year 1818. He is a son of William and Sela (Dunn) Evans, who were members of old families of Georgia, his ancestry having settled there about the beginning of the present century.” Would love to swap information with you. I am descended from Thomas’ daughter Sarah Mayo Evans (married to George Washington Burnett). Marlene Alabama **************It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. Find your travel deal here. 3. Marlene, My search for a connection for the parents of Thomas J. Evans began with the work of Mona Mills at Robinsons of Itawamba County and beyond http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=mmills1957&id=I0861 You asked how I made the connection between Thomas and Aaron? Some of the evidence for a connection of Aaron May and Thomas J. Evans is: Mary Ann Evans was the daughter of Thomas J. Evans and Henrietta Clayton (1850 census for Itawamba County, Mississippi) Mary Ann Evans married William Wear May (Marriage records for Itawamba; Itawamba census 1850, 1860, 1870) William Wear May was the son of Aaron May and Mary Ann "Anny" Gilmore (1850 Itawamba census; the work of Imogene Boswell) I like your reasoning about the use of the names Sela and William and the proximity of the brother (prob) William to show that the parents of Thomas J. Evans are William Evans and Sela Dunn. I have seen your Descendancy Narrative of Sarah (Sally) Mayo Evans.  Another person who has entered info into this line is Dan Solomon with whom I corresponded some while ago on the Anny Gilmore ancestry. I'm not sure that I have anything original to add to the lineage, but it's nice to know that someone else out there is searching and interested. Let me know if you think I've gone in the wrong direction. -- Martha in California Genealogy - So many ancestors...so little time!

    3. Hello to the Evans Group from a newbie to the group! I am reseaching Mary Ann Evans (1839 GA-1921 TX) m. (1848 MS) William Wear May (1835 AL-1878 MS) Her parents: Thomas J. Evans (ca 1811 GA- 1889 TX) m. (1838 GA) Henrietta Clayton (1821 GA- bef 1873 MS) His parents: Aaron May (1810 TN- 1888 AL) m. (1837 MS) Mary Ann "Anny" Gilmore (ca 1810 GA- bef 1863 AL) My brick wall is with Aaron May and an uncertain link to Anny Gilmore's parents. I know that's not part of this list, but if anyone is looking at Mary Ann Evans, there might be some info about her family and her husband to share. I did some searches in the Evans Archives, so maybe some of you have found more information recently. Thanks, hopefully!
