With all the mailing lists and forums we all belong to in our genealogical quests, courtesy and respect towards each other makes our research so much easier. By my calculations we share a set of 3rd great grandparents: Edward Evans and Sarah Edmondson. In the 1850 census Sarah with her sons, Elijah and Ephraim Perry (my 2nd great grandfather) were living with the Thomas (Sarah Thomas'family I assume) family two households down from Isaac Greenup's family. Author: edseevers2 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.evans/10069.2.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I know I shouldn't, but I have to comment. A little patience would go a long way to help folks with their quest. We should not yell (shown by putting our comments in capitals). Instead we should ask questions. The Evans family is one of the most difficult lines I have worked on. However, on another note, I am not a certified genealogist. I am quick to tell folks that I am a non-certified genealogist. It doesn't mean that I'm less knowledgeable than a great many certified genealogists. I simply have not taken the test and paid the fees. Almost anyone can follow a structured course of learning and pass a test if they can study and memorize. It doesn't mean they know what they're doing. So, don't think that because someone isn't certified they don't have qualifications. By the way, I don't think that's exactly what you meant but it read that way. Being a genealogist I did admit that I forgot the county and I know better but as far as how this person replied to my post well,I don't let people like that get to me. You are right this person isn't a certified genealogist and doesn't know better but you will find a lot of those in this field. Just have to not let them bring you to their level and go on with your own business the right way. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. We all have seen messages where not enough info is posted in it, much less than the original poster of this thread, but your response is not the way any real researcher or genealogist would give. I frankly don't believe that you are actually either a researcher or a genealogist, but are some kind of spammer who is wrongfully attacking a person who was genuinely looking for their family. Learn a little bit netiquette and stop yelling at this poster, which is what you are doing with all of your capitals. If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say it at all. Author: finlplnr Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.evans/10069.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Great !!! All I was trying to say is that all of us need to use terminalogy that FULLY EXPLAINS WHERE OUR DESCENDENTS LIVE !!! My descendents have been in KY for over 200 years, but that does not mean that I have EVERY COUNTY IN KENTUCKY MEMORIZED, MUCH LESS EVERY COUNTY IN ALL 50 STATES !!! If I told you and everyone else that my EVANS relatives are from Proctor, Ky, do you know where I am talking about without looking at some state map. I can tell you that there is not 1 out of 100 people who know where Proctor, Ky is. Even if I tell them Clay County (originally in 1800 ) (but now Lee County). Most people still do not know where I am talking about. However if I say Proctor/Beattyville, Lee County, KY IN EAST CENTRAL KENTUCKY, then everyone can figure out if this is the area of KY that there relatives are from without even looking at a map. If "East Central" KY is the general area that the reader is from or researching then they can pinpoint the specific area. However if all you say is "ALBANY,KY" (even if you mention Clinton County) without saying WHERE CLINTON COUNTY IS LOCATED then those of us who do not know where Clinton Co is will likely just ignore your email because it does not seem familiar to us or in the area we know about !!! If you want the most amount of people to respond to your email, then give them the BEST INFO TO MAKE THAT DESCISION !! Joe Evans - Descendents from Lee & Owsley Counties in East Central KY since 1790s !!! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. So for YOUR sake ALBANY is the TOWN, KY is the STATE. This I already stated. As far as the county I will have to give you that. I'm a genealogist and I should of known better than to leave it out. That was a mistake on my part but mistakes happen. The COUNTY is CLINTON. And as far as the WHEN, that was stated also with the birth of Arnold 1896 or 98. 3. Google "Albany, KY" ... You'll find out immediately where it is. It's in Clinton County, on Route 127, in South Central Kentucky, on the Tennessee border. Just click on the map, enlarge it using the zoom bar and you'll have it Dick [email protected] wrote: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: bill_cache > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.evans/10069.1/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > " WHO - WHEN - WHERE" !!! > That is what you ALWAYS need to tell anybody who you would like to get an answer from !!! > You only gave us an "Unqualified WHERE" in that you said "Albany, Ky". > My EVANS Line has been in KY for over 200 Years !!! > But I do NOT KNOW WHERE "Albany, Ky" is located !!! > SO PLEASE TELL US "THE TOWN, THE COUNTY, ANY THE STATE" AND ALSO TELL US GENERAL AREA OF THE STATE THAT YOUR TOWN IS LOCATED IF MOST OF US DO NOT KNOW WHERE "ALBANY, KY" IS LOCATED !!!
