What link did you find the obituary? I tried all day but without success. My mother mentioned the name "Reynolds" but I'm not sure why if Velvie Evans' maiden name was Farrell. I'm trying to find info on Velvie's side of the family since her mother was supposedly a Cherokee woman. Thanks. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am researching my mother's side of the family and am trying to find out my grandmother's maiden name and about her side of the family. She has been deceased for some time, but her name was Velvie Evans and she lived in Clanton, Alabama. She was married to an Amos Evans who passed away back in 1978. Both are buried in a small cemetary in Clanton Alabama but I can't find any information about my grandmother's side of the family. My mother told me that her grandfather had married a cherokee woman but other than that, I know nothing of their family...what their last name was...etc; If you are related to a Velvie Evans and know this info, I would greatly appreciate if it someone could email me at [email protected] Thanks in advance. Yes I did say Africa. It notes him as father-in-law. When you look for Africa Staples there are two listd. It just might be possible that she married an Evans and for what ever reason she then married Calvin Spinney. I would look in Androscoggin and Sagadahoc for your Estella. I could only find one Africa in the 1880 census, but maybe the other is list under intials. Maybe this will help. Rhonda Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi, I have in my possession a photocopy of 153 pages of a very rare book, rare in the sense that it is almost impossible to find anywhere. I tried getting it through interlibrary loan and the only place that has it, a library in Indiana, will not let it be circulated. It is by Walter Salts. The title is: THE EVANS FAMILY WORKBOOK: The Family of Isaac Evans of Monroe County, Ohio, and Ballard County, Ky. The first page has the following "Civil War Diary and Memoirs of Thomas Evans A Foreword [written May, 1053] by Lawrence T. Evans, grandson of Thomas Evans... That goes on for some 20 + pages.... There is a section entitled "Civil War Service Record." Thomas and Isabelle Evans with Family Members ca 1907 The Children of Isaac Evans - Photo taken about 1908 Civil War Material from National Archives Isaac Evans family of Brown County, Indiana Family of Thomas Evans Thomas Evans was born 8-8-1842 in Ohio, died 9-9-1910 ... in Van Buren Twp., Brown Co. In Evans Family Obituaries from the Vanest Family Files There's a lot more, but no room here. If someone wants a copy contact me off list. The library charged me a Lot of money to make the copy. We would have to negotiate a payment for a copy... But... it might be important to someone's research. Renee
