It doesn't appear that there is any connection here or the Welsh society does not have all the correct information. My Evans family that was in Ohio went directly from Greene Co., PA to Logan County Ohio, just northwest of Columbus. They were all farmers. While there were a stray coal miner or two, at least 98% of them were farmers continuing the occupation from the time they first came to Pennsylvania. Through information from the local Welsh society the impression is that the Evans in Union (west of Franklin County/Columbus) would have come to Cleveland from PA and then south towards Randor in neighboring Delaware county. They were farmers. But the Evans in Logan and the rest of SE Ohio came in through what is now West Virginia and were mostly coal miners. The "big city" of Columbus attracted both groups over the years through employment in manufacturing (which vanished from Columbus by the 1960's). During the last 15 years it seems as if the most common Cymreig family name in SE Ohio and Columbus went from "Jones" to "Evans". Local joke is that it helped the SE Ohio phone companies as they no longer need to publish a seperate directory for the name "Jones". As for having "Roberts" in your family, not the family out of Mifflin Township in eastern Franklin County. That's the family to which I am associated. Nor do we have any known "Jones". However, the my adopted Roberts family was employed by Ralston Steel Car Company which was located along the railroad running between Mifflin and Turbo Townships (Whitehall, Bexley, Reynoldsburg, OH). Ralston was a major employer for both townships. There are at least three older Roberts famlies in Turbo that I know of, one, maybe two had family members at Ralston 1905-1953. Maybe they were with your relation? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. HI Delores I think I wrote you not long ago pertaining to this line and inquiring about any Elbert/Madison/Oglethorpe co ga connections. My grimes/wilhtie desc married EVANS there. Anyway. THat is interesting! I read somewhere the Evans in this area were mulatto. I guess if this is our line, James Stewart "passed" for white, as he stayed behind, left will in Granville co NC 1835. SALLY Stewart later lived with her son Thomas then her daughter. I dont' see any familiar names in this line. Dont' recall many Stewart's around this time either so either James was a lone child or his family MOVED and he stayed cause he "passed"??? I will look further into it. Do you know of any other Stewart/Stuart families in the area at this time? Thanks! Those names don't ring any bells.......unfortunately. The names I know are Alexander and Rebecca Wooten Evans. I think they were married in Surry County, NC in early 1800's. I don't know where all of their children ended up, but most stayed in NC except for my line that went to Kansas about 1866, and another line that went to TN. Sorry! Best wishes with your search.
