I can't find the file where sound is located, so guess it will have to stay.. Control panel, Multimedia Properties, audio, you can turn off the volume control. Control panel, Sounds, is where you select sounds for each action of the computer. You can turn them all off there, one at a time. Jack **************END OF ORIGINAL MESSAGE TEXT************** Jack, thanks for showing how to remove the Sound Control from the task bar. If anyone wants to add it to the Quick Launch bar, the file is SNDVOL32.EXE, in the Windows directory/folder. Using Explorer, navigate to: C:\WINDOWS\APPLICATION DATA\MICROSOFT\INTERNET EXPLORER\QUICK LAUNCH Right-click in an open space in the panel where the files are listed. Chose NEW, then SHORTCUT. When the window opens, in the box "Command Line", type in C:\WINDOWS\SNDVOL32.EXE. Click "Next". In the next window, in the "Select a Name for the Short Cut", type in whatever you want, maybe "Sound Volume Control". Now, if you're using Win98, you can click in the Quick Launch and start the utility. (If you are using Win95, you can do the same thing on the Desktop, by starting out the same way, right-click in a clear area.) It's just another utility that you DON'T have to load when Windows starts, and therefore won't use valuable resources. SgtGeorge
