I do also need some quality text work availability. So, what do you suggest.. I rarely do legal size work.. and don't mind going to the printer for that.. I don't want to pay the extra for that use, unless it is just not much of a cost factor at all. But, I do want very nice photo quality. >Second item. LOLOL.. that was the very reason I joined ages ago.. :-)......I just rebooted and with NOTHING opened yet, I was at 80 %. I opened Eudora and instantly am at 59%..... I had not even ck'd the mail yet.. and I have NO other programs open yet.. I do however have in my sys tray V shield, sound, norton system utilities, V scheduler, zone alarm.....I have 18 mailboxes comprising of 1,714 pieces of mail all total...... My unit as I said the other day is the AMD Athlon 650 mhz with 256 meg RAM with all the bells and whistles other than a DVD and I didn't want it.. I also don't have the little monitor mounted camera.. LOLOL... surely don't want that.. So, how on earth are you doing well with ALLLLL of that and I'm not.. g Mike & Ginger Woodcock/EagleRun Australian Shepherds [email protected] http://www.eaglerun1.com Ginger's WebDesign is here to help with your Web Needs, Give us a call, or email with your questions. I use three different scanners, one is a HP built into the printer which is a R40xi, it does very well on most things, 600 X 24oo optical. An old un-named at a friends house, and it is the pits, but is at least 5 years old, came with a system, has 300 X 600, and is not good. One at the copy center, which is a drum scanner, can do about 8000 X 8000 fast, but even higher with time. Too costly for most work. So you can see that I use the HP. Works well for up to 8 X 10 prints. >>Second item. Wondering why several of you are having low resources with >>several mailboxes open. I >also don't have the little monitor mounted camera.. LOLOL... surely don't >want that.. Well you will not like what I am about to say, but here it is. I do not use any AV or other TSR's except sound, and zone alarm. I have the scanner software installed for scanner init. scanning, but have it unchecked in msconfig. I can enable it any time I need it. For AV, I scan only about once a week. I have a full time cable modem, but am very careful where I go. With the use of Eudora, and being careful, none of the latest Virus problems have been a problem for me. It is also very important, to load things in a line, so that all will work together, without fighting each other. I restart about every two hours whether I need to or not, to flush out the memory stack. I immediately restart every time I use PSP or Photoshop, as well as any other graphic programs, as they leave lots of lost bits of code in the stack. I have not done a clean rebuild of this hard disk in over 4 years, so it is getting very slow, but still works fine. So the wonder is what am I doing, or not doing that is so different that I am doing OK. I am wondering which of the three resource stacks is the worst for your system, as that is the one reported most by most checking software. I frequently have e-mail open, two or three netscape windows, and even PSP running at the same time with only about 50% used. Are you letting windows control your swap disk? There can be some problems there, as if it is swapping too much, and with too large of chunks of code, it uses resources like mad to do so. Jack

I have scanned dozens of old photos and "repaired" them with PSP, and the final products look much better than the old photos. I'm starting to think that, unless one is doing professional photographic work, just about any scanner will do, IF it will scan at least 32 bits, and at least 720 dpi. (Mine, being old, scans 24 bits, but still does a wonderful job.) SgtGeorge
