We don't know why this happens, it just does from time to time. I personally suspect that it has something to do with the way MS Windows handles non-MS programs. Not making any accusations, but it seems that Windows screws up other non-MS programs a lot. Is it done deliberately? Who knows? Anyway, I hope you backed up the previous version of Eudora before installing the upgrade! At least the EUDORA.INI file. If so, you can rename the present file in the Eudora directory and copy the backed-up version back to the directory. If you don't have a backup, you can delete, or rename, the present EUDORA.INI and restart Eudora. That should work, and Eudora will build a new file, BUT without all the settings you made in the past. Just to remind everyone again, when you install an upgrade to ANY program, copy the ENTIRE old program directory, files, sub-directories and files, etc., to a safe place on your hard-drive. That way, if something goes amiss, you can always go back to your original version and settings and try again. What I do is create a new directory, say C:\EUDORA-SAVE, and drag the entire EUDORA directory into that new directory, by clicking on the EUDORA directory icon in Explorer, and dragging to the new directory. (isn't there ALWAYS a "but"?) on re-starting Eudora after the fatal error, it worked fine again (without replacing eudora.ini) so it is not likely to be a corrupted file. DL
