I don't like being beaten... not by a machine.. LOL Ginger....the same thing happened to me! I couldn't get past the parrot picture splash screen. When I'd try and scan something, it would go through the motions, make the first pass, and there would be that stupid parrot. I grew to hate the thing! LOL The problem was that another program was loading before the scanner, and that made the scanner go into a tizzy fit and refuse to work. My "Mr. Fixit" came, and finally ended up putting a dosleg entry in to make the scanner load first. I understood it at the time, but my expertise is lacking in that area, and I can't tell you where/how he did it. Maybe Jack knows? The weird thing with mine was that part of the time the scanner would work, and part of the time I'd get that stupid parrot splash screen and it would just all come to a hault. Since Rick put in that dosleg line, it's been fine. Works like it always did. Apparently the sporadic working/not working on again off again deal was due to the fact that something else was sometimes loading first instead of the scanner. When that happened, it wouldn't work. When the scanner loaded first, it worked fine. Might this be her problem, Jack?? Mari

And with Win95 the use of the config.sys and autoexec.bat files to load drivers and batch files can work around several problems. Some of the changes to Win95 make this hard however. In Win98 it is a lot harder to work around in this manner. Do able frequently, but a person has to have the computer in hand to see what can be done. This kind of problem is hard to work on at a distance. Jack

Since we have the new puter we had built, the paperport program will no longer work with my unit. It appears it is outdated now. So, we had to download DeskScan II from HP's site. Now, I FINALLY got the scanner in properly and when you open the DeskScan program a little window pops up and allows you to scan.. and then it will ask you to give a string as to where to send it.. Before, you would just push the little green button on front of the scanner and paperport would pop open and away you go.. NOT ANYMORE.. I'm lost.. ginger ps, I use my scanner for my email as much as I do for my website work Mike & Ginger Woodcock/EagleRun Australian Shepherds [email protected] http://www.eaglerun1.com Ginger's WebDesign is here to help with your Web Needs, Give us a call, or email with your questions.
