They try any program they hear about on the net that seems to do some "thing" they want. Quite frequently this causes many problems, especially if, like in the AV programs, you have two or more programs trying to do the same thing. They will fight, and if not completely removed, including the registry entries, will leave you in mudville. Rather than "uninstall", they just deleted the folders/directories. I guess I can see why SOMETIMES it is necessary to reformat, but not nearly as often as I hear from others. Even using the programs' "unwise" uninstall, or Windows uninstall, enough Registry entries are left to cause problems later on. As I just witnessed a few days ago when I used the McAfee utility at their web site. And, I still have a small problem with my genealogy program. I was using version 2.5 and installed the new 3.0 into its own directory, so I could continue using both until I had transferred all my data files to the new one. Anyway, since installing 3.0, when I click on the icon for 2.5, the system goes through the motions, just like it were loading. I can see the HD light working as it loads, so know it's doing something. NO PROGRAM. A CTRL-ALT-DEL shows that the program IS loaded! I can minimize everything until I see the desktop - NO PROGRAM! Grrrr!!!!! I have talked many times with the person who writes the genealogy program and he can NOT solve the problem! HAS to have something to do with the Registry entries. SgtGeorge
How do I make sure all the tail ends of programs and fragments are really gone.. Is there a utility. I usually go to my computer, control panel, add and remove and then go to explore and make sure it is all gone.. I do this if the uninstall does not work, or there is not one.. I just don't know another way.. g Mike & Ginger Woodcock/EagleRun Australian Shepherds [email protected] http://www.eaglerun1.com Ginger's WebDesign is here to help with your Web Needs, Give us a call, or email with your questions.
