You and probably most users here are concerned only about their own system, but the issue is much more and leads quickly to privacy issues in general and corresponding legislation. Ad sponsored SW - like Eudora - is a good idea, but where are the limits in regards to privacy? Imagine this Aureate (or similar SW) finds out, that you have subscribed to some Genealogy lists and then keeps on sending eMail ads about genealogy books. The Internet Societal Taskforce (www.istf.org) has a WG that is working on such issues. After I've heard about that OptOut from you (thanks for it!), I informed the ISTF list about it and there was quite vivid response! Pls. do keep us informed about your talks with Steve Gibson!
