Guess what! Everything is back!!! Restoring the ini file did it! And you knwo what else? Remember a while back I mentioned losing my alternate personalities, and not being able to make new ones? Well, the original personalities are back, and are functional again. Now I just have to go through all my settings to be sure they're the way I want them. Thanks *so* much for the suggestion! OK guys and gals! Remember what has been said about BACKING UP your important/critical files? Sandy's email just confirmed how important it is to do backups. BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP!!!!! And, if any of you missed it, I've often advocated using a program/utility that does automatic backups EVERY day/night! For some reason, Windows likes to corrupt .ini files from time to time, and you never know when it will happen. I've had to restore the EUDORA.INI file a few times, and am just thankful that I had backup copies available to use. WINDOWS IS NOT PERFECT!!!!! Windows WILL corrupt .ini files from time to time!!!!! If you don't backup such files, you will regret it!!!!!! And, it seems that Windows has a penchant for screwing with .ini files of Email browsers that are NOT Microsoft products. 'Nuff said. Not saying that MS doesn't protect our "other" email browser files like it does MS products, but..... In case any of you missed it, I have often "plugged" a FREE utility called "TaskZip", which you can configure to backup ANY files on your system, at a specific time, at specific intervals. My TaskZip backs up my Eudora critical files EVERY night!!!!! And that includes EUDORA.INI. If I need to, I can go back days, weeks, or months, and dig out past EUDORA.INI files from the .zip files made by TaskZip. Then, if I go to take Eudora down, it tells me that there are still tasks running. I also have the program set to automatically download every 10 minutes. After an hour, there are 7 tasks running - like the first didn't finish to allow the next to start. Does this make sense? Anyway, I'll take Eudora down again (there are 2 tasks running - probably the initial download that didn't complete, and the one message I tried to send), and copy over the ini file from my backup. I'll let you know what happens as soon as I'm back up and running. Thanks, Sandy At 11:26 PM 4/7/2000 -0400, you wrote: Sandy, first go to TOOLS/OPTIONS and click on "Background Tasks". It sounds like something has gone haywire on your system. Hate to say it, but that's what it sounds like. And, it's probably nothing you did to cause it. It just happens from time to time. That's Windows. Have you backed up critical files on your system lately? If so, you can restore the Eudora.ini file from the backup and see if this solves the Eudora problem. If you didn't backup up Eudora.ini, I don't know what you can do, short of a complete reconfiguration of Eudora from the Tools/Options menu. Check out the "Background Tasks" first, then let us know if that helps. We'll go from there. SgtGeorge **************END OF ORIGINAL MESSAGE TEXT**************
