This is of critical importance! If you don't save any other posts from the EUDORA-Mail Mailing List, save this one. 1) Make a manual backup of EUDORA.INI (so that if you screw up, you will still have the original file to work with). The easiest way is to "copy" it to another file, such as EUDORA-INI.BAK. Unfortunately, you can't do this using Windows Explorer. (Ugh! Why can't MS allow us to do this in Windows without having to resort to DOS!?) Got to a DOS prompt; navigate to C:\Eudora; type: COPY EUDORA.INI EUDORA-INI.BAK True explorer is backward, but you can just right click on eudora.ini in explorer, and drag the file to the desk top. When you let up on the right button, it will ask you what to do. Tell it to copy the file to the desk top. and it will do so, leaving the original where it was. Rename the file, and place it where ever you want it, with explorer. This is faster than using DOS. Jack **************END OF ORIGINAL MESSAGE TEXT************** Jack, permit me to disagree. (GRIN) All this dragging to the DeskTop, then renaming the file, then going back to Explorer, then moving to wherever you want it is just plain time-consuming, and, to say the least, "inelegant". I suspect that you are a relatively new computer user (meaning that you never learned how to use DOS, back in the "olden" days, say, prior to 1995?), and, therefore, don't feel comfortable with it. Your way takes several steps, is complicated, and is more time-consuming. Using DOS involves the time needed to type in, "COPY EUDORA.INI EUDORA-INI.BAK" and hitting "Enter". PLEASE, your tips are valuable and we appreciate them, but DON'T negate simpler and less time-consuming approaches, just because you aren't comfortable with them. Everyone is welcome to his/her own way of doing things, but, "This is faster than using DOS" is not valid. For the last week or so, we seem to be at "loggerheads"; let's get together and discuss what we know about how to use Windows in the most effective, less time-consuming, and easiest manner. Doing things through Windows Explorer is NOT the ONLY way to do things. It only happens to be the easiest way for those who are novices, and who have never used DOS. Explorer is just plain ineffective! Regards, SgtGeorge George W. My first large computer was a vacuum tube computer called UniVac One, ser. 2. I have a lot of gray hair that was caused by the last 39 years of battles with computers. Jack
