He occasionally uses my account, so I thought I'd give him a way to respond, as him and not me. I went through the entire process - 3 times, and the personality is still not there. I used both the "create new" and also the "advanced" method. I can't seem to get the new personality to "save". Any ideas? **************END OF ORIGINAL MESSAGE TEXT************** (Sandra, you didn't say which version you are using; I am going to assume it's at least 4.2.2) Once you've opened the Personalities window, right-click in the window background area; click "New". At the next screen, select "Skip directly to accounts setup". Click "Finish". Then start filling in the data: GENERIC PROPERTIES TAB: Personality Name: Johnny Walroth (as an example) Real Name: Johnny Walroth (can be the same as Personality name or something entirely different) Return Address: [email protected] (if you only have one account name at your server) [email protected] (if you server allows you to have more than one account, put whatever your son uses here) Login Name: carawind (if you only have one account name at your server) whatever (if you can have more than one account name, put your son's here) SMTP Server: smtp.westol.com (assuming @westol.com uses the standard SMTP format) Authentication Allowed: (Check this, again assuming @westol.com allows password authentication) Default Domain: (I leave this one blank) Default Stationery:(if your son isn't going to have a "Stationery", just leave this one as "no default"; if you HAVE made one for him, select it in the drop- down list) Default Signature: (Same as "Default Stationery") Check Mail: (This one depends on whether you have only one account at your server or not; if you have only one, DON'T check it; if your son has his own unique account name [login name], check it) INCOMING MAIL TAB: Server: This one depends on what your server has told you to use; normally it's pop3.westol.com; however, it might be mail.westol.com) Configuration: 99% of the time this will be POP, not IMAP The middle section will depend on what you want Eudora to do, "Leave Mail on Server, Delete from Server, Skip Messages Over...., etc. Authentication Style:Probably "Passwords"; again, it depends on what your server allows. When you click on "OK" at the bottom, the Personality will automatically be saved. When he wants to send an email, he opens up the "New Message" window. in the "From:" header, he can click and see a list of available Personalities. Yours will probably show up as "Dominant"; his will show up as whatever you made it in the "Personality Name" (first item above). If he's replying, the same thing applies, just click on "From:" header. If you're not using a new enough version to allow selecting the Personality Name in the "From:" header, he can still select it by holding down the Shift key while clicking on the appropriate icon for "New Message" or "Reply". Does this answer your question? Try it. Does it work? If the answer to either, or both, is NO, let me know exactly what you did and what happened when you were finished and clicked OK to close out the Personality utility. SgtGeorge

I had previously done what you listed, but just tried it again to be sure. I entered everything as it should have been. The actual values you specified only needed changed slightly - recently Westol merged with Helicon, and now both domain names are in use for the same ISP. Consequently the entire email address is needed to log in. Otherwise everything was correct (well, except my son's name - it's Scott. <vbg>) When I clicked "OK" to close the window, the new personality didn't show in the Personalities. The entire procedure seemed to work fine, but when I finished, the new personality still isn't there. Is there a limit on the number of personalities you can have? I currently have 4 defined for my backup ISP and a couple special-use names. Could this be the problem? When I created the other 3, this procedure worked fine - but it isn't now. Sandy
Yesterday, I lost the task status on my Eudora 4.2.2. When I click on the "check mail" button, it checks mail, but I don't have the spinning b/w circle. I no longer have the blue bar showing me the status of the download. When I click on "Tools" "Task Status" or "Task Errors", nothing happens. Up until then, they worked fine, and I made no changes to the settings in my software. I've also lost the letter in the system tray, and the announcement of incoming mail. Help! I don't know how I lost these, or how to get them back. Thanks, Sandy W [email protected]

Make sure the following are checked: Bring error window to front Bring task status window to front However, from your post, I don't think this is going to help. It sounds like something has gone haywire on your system. Hate to say it, but that's what it sounds like. And, it's probably nothing you did to cause it. It just happens from time to time. That's Windows. Have you backed up critical files on your system lately? If so, you can restore the Eudora.ini file from the backup and see if this solves the Eudora problem. If you didn't backup up Eudora.ini, I don't know what you can do, short of a complete reconfiguration of Eudora from the Tools/Options menu. Check out the "Background Tasks" first, then let us know if that helps. We'll go from there. SgtGeorge
