Hi Jack, I followed your instructions and it takes a bit but Eudora opens up a blank email note addressed to the person I clicked on. However a message box comes up from IE that says " Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not set up properly " I am not sure what to do next. Thanks Patricia At 02:05 PM 8/17/01 -0700, you wrote: >At 01:19 PM 8/17/01, you wrote: >>I should know this but coming up blank. Thanks Carol Go to your icon for IE. Right click and select properties. Go to Programs Tab and select. At the bottom of window, check the statement IE should check to see whether it is the default browser. Click apply, Close window and double click IE icon. When it asks if you want IE to become default browser, click yes. Shakey Jack
I am having the same problem. Would love to see the answer. Thanks Patricia At 01:19 PM 8/17/01 -0700, you wrote: >I should know this but coming up blank. I should know this but coming up blank. How do I change my default browser from Nescape to IE, so that when I click on links within emails, they open in IE. Thanks Carol
The address book files are in the Nickname directory under the Eudora directory. Each address book consists of two files with same root name, but extensions of .toc and .txt. Just backup the entire nickname directory. I back up my entire Eudora directory. Eudora was the first email program I used on the internet. I have over 5 years of backed up email messages. . I forget how to save/backup my Eudora Address Book and I would be lost if it ever disappeared! I never named it...so it is still a default in my Eudora 5.1 software. Could somebody tell me how to be sure it is included in a backup? Thanks Patije
Sue, I'm using Eudora 5.1 for about 2 weeks and haven't had any problems. I was using Eudora light but it crashed or locked up on me. I was told to upgrade 5.1 but not to put it in the same place. That was b/c my Eudora light wasn't working properly. Maybe someone on this list can help you and tell you what you need to do. Good luck.. Hi all, Is anyone else having difficulty with the upgrade to 5.12? I keep having freezes which are only resolved by my system rebooting or closing Eudora. This never happened prior to the upgrade and has happened consistently since. haven't seen any comments in the knowledge base about it. Any suggestions will be very appreciated:o) Sue Cancio

Your ISP might have changed the way they want you to get your mail. Sorry this is a little late in answering. Debbie
ALWAYS choose "Rebuild"! If you don't, you will have a mess. There have been several posts here lately having to do with Eudora and MFC42.DLL. Usually, when a problem such as this happens, it is because another program has been installed, one which replaces the original MFC42.DLL with another version, specific to the new installed program. Unfortunately, some programs install old, out- dated versions of required files, which just don't work with programs that require the latest versions. Be careful when installing new programs. If they are "good" programs and use the proper protocols for installing/replacing files, they will give you the option of replacing existing files, or keeping the versions already on your computer. READ THE WARNINGS! Look at the dates of the files already on your computer, and look at the dates of the files the new program wants to install. Eudora was loaded onto my computer last April, but used only four or five times. Short test messages were sent and received. We now wish to use it full time. However, although we can send messages via our server which are posted and received, no incoming messages seem to arrive. I am able to see the lights flashing showing that the modem is working but whichever files I look in, no emails can be seen. I looked at the Eudora "In" files in Windows Explorer. They have 0 KB! I have run through all the "Options" with a friend who has Eudora, and in all cases we have the same settings. He too, is stumped. Can anybody help us, please. Thanks. --
Some programs embed a graphic in the body of the message. AOL does this for one. In my version of Eudora they don't appear, just a gray box. I got one just today. I looked in the Embedded folder and there it was. Thanks for bringing it up. Now I know how to see them. Does anyone know what the difference between the Attach folder and the Embedded folder are for under Eudora in WE? Some of my attachments are going to Attach and some to Embedded. I checked the Help files, but nothing comes up under embedded. Thanks in advance. Patty
Hi, Mike - <<there is an filter selection in the ACTION area called SERVER OPTION from which you can select Fetch or Delete. According to Eudora Help, the message can be deleted from the server without fetching it. Mike>> Found it ! Wow, that little option was certainly tucked away. Thanks a million for the heads up. I found it, made the proper selection, and now all fingers are crossed. THANK YOU!! And thank you, too, Sue, for your suggestion: <<Another route you can go is to also notify the list manager privately (LISTNAMEHERE-admin@rootsweb.com) to which the infected person is subscribed. >> The infected messages coming from the sc.rr.com domain name are obviously from someone interested in genealogy, and that may be how his 'puter got my address...via a list to which we both subscribe. But the messages do not have a prepend nor an indication via which list he got my address, so there's no way to contact any particular list admin. (sigh) I think Mike's suggestion will do the trick. Susan
Susan, I haven't used this option, but there is an filter selection in the ACTION area called SERVER OPTION from which you can select Fetch or Delete. According to Eudora Help, the message can be deleted from the server without fetching it. Might want to give it a try. I don't experience the problem you had. I had to set up a filter for one person that was infected with the BadTrans and sent it out over two weeks. We seemed to be on all the same mailing lists. Everytime I sent in a message, I received it form her. Here's one thing you might try. Go the Tools - Filters. This will bring up the dialogue box to modify filters. Highlight the filter you created in the left panel. Under Header: pulldown window select <Any Header> Gene At 05:16 AM 08/03/2001 -0700, you wrote: >Dear Gene - ><<In Eudora it's called Filtering Messages to Folders. The list manager could remove the infected list member temporarily until the virus is removed so that new postings to the list do not provide a route to spread the virus. I have done so on the lists I manage, always sending a private note explaining what I have done, and that the person is welcomed back when free of infection. I also put them on the reject list so they must go through me first and assure me of a clean machine at that moment. I'll admit, it may seem a bit radical but the main source of the offending infections have been listmembers on a list with over 600 list members on it, too many to risk not taking extra precautions. -No Complaints Yet. Yes, it is true the virus attachment does not come through the RootsWeb unix system, however, with each new email that infected person receives it may be replicated and sent out privately -not through the list. Sort of like feed a fever, starve a cold! <g> Sue, who is now using EUDORA and, reading mail on website first before downloading, & updating patches for DAT files for her anti-virus program!!!
Thank you, Gene... ><<I don't experience the problem you had.
