    3. Hello Everyone, I solved my change over problems from @home to Comcast last week and I will explain what to do in case anyone else will undergo that change. You DO NOT have to install any software that they send you. You do have to make the following change to your NETWORK settings (as Sgt. George explained in a prior message). The only change was to the TCP/IP PROPERTIES - WINS CONFIGURATION. Make sure the bottom box is checked - USE DHCP for WINS RESOLUTION. The changes you have to make to your Eudora program are the following: Login Name - YOUR NAME/mail.comcast.net SMTP SERVER - smtp.comcast.net Incoming Mail Server - mail.comcast.net That's it. The problem that I had and you may have also is the password that they send you in the mail. You must use that password with your new Comcast account (you can change it latter). Comcast decided to make their capitol "I" look just like a small "l". It took three phone calls and close to three hours total on hold to get to the bottom of this. I was passed around to 7 different people. If anyone is or will be encountering the switch over and needs some help just email me and I'll try to help you. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. ------ Glenn G. Geisheimer <germanic42@virtualnewarknj.com> <http://virtualnewarknj.com/> <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~list/>

    3. Glenn, the CD has exactly the same software that has to be downloaded from the Comcast web page. If it is NOT installed, you will definitely experience problems with internet connection AND with your email program, whether it's Eudora or something else. Here's what is said on the web site: ============================ What happens if I do not install the CD? To ensure a smooth transition from your current service to Comcast High-Speed Internet, we strongly recommend that you install the Comcast High-Speed Internet software by February 28, 2002, otherwise you may experience interruption to your Internet connectivity and e-mail functionality. However, if your IP settings are configured statically, you will need to install the Comcast High-Speed Internet software by the date referenced in the 3-Step Guide. For the fastest and easiest way to install the software, visit: www.comcast.net/connectioncenter/welcome.asp and follow the simple, step-by-step instructions. ============================ There is also a page at Comcast about how to reconfigure Windows IF you have a "static" IP: ============================ Instructions for WINDOWS 95/98xx/ME Go to the "Start menu" then "Setting" and then "Control Panel". Double click on the "Network" icon. Highlight "TCP/IP" with the network adapter that is installed on your machine. Click on the "Properties" Tab. Click on the "IP Address" tab and select "Obtain an IP Address Automatically". Click on the "Wins Configuration" tab and select "Use DHCP for Wins Resolution". Click on the "Gateway" tab, if the gateway field is populated Highlight the information and click the remove tab. Click on the "DNS Configuration" tab, then select the "Disable DNS" options. Click on the "OK" button. Click on the "OK" button again, then you will be prompt to restart the computer. =========================== There's lots more on the website. Everyone should read all of it before doing ANYTHING. (The Comcast URL was in the original email from Comcast.) SgtGeorge George W. Durman At 12/27/2001 07:48 PM Thursday, Glenn G. I joined @home during the infant days of the service, and used their software for a short while, then dumped it, as soon as they opened up for direct link to web. This meant that I had to use their e-mail addresses, but Eudora took it fine. When they dumped us onto ATTBI.com, I had a few short problems, with the conversions, but as long as you use the proper address for the incoming and outgoing mail, it should work for comcast.com just as it does for us. The easiest way I found to convert, when something changes, and I want to set up for the Eudora mail, I open up the personalities window, and make new persons with the new addresses. Then delete the old addresses. Then in Tools, Options, Getting Started window, set the new incoming and outgoing addresses sent to me, and all worked well. Remember that you will have to tell them your new, (or reused), passwords for each personality. Shakey Jack

To make sure you have the POP in the right place check Tools>Options>Checking Mail The POP name goes in the Mail Server block. 3. Where do you live at. I'm in Hattiesburg MS. I have not got anything from them regarding any change in service in a few weeks. I don't use the email name they give me. I have another account where my webpages are that I use for email. So far everything seems to be working ok. I've copied this to my @home address to see if I get it. As to using their software, I say don't do it. They need to give you 2 mail sever names. One is called POP for incoming mail. One is called SMTP for outgoing mail. 3. There is a way to filter colored backgrounds or all emails with html content. It took a little experimenting but I figured it out. This will filter out colored backgrounds Header: <Body> contains bgcolor This will filter all messages with html content. Header: <Body> contains <html> You will have to place this filter carefully in the lineup so that it won't filter things that you want filtered elsewhere. For instance I am in some Yahoogroups that include an ad in html at the bottom of the page. You can also select that the filter only works on incoming messages. That way you can go to the mailbox you filter them to and filter them to the correct box. Gene At 11:03 AM 12/20/01 -0500, you wrote: >AMEN to that, George.
