    1. [EUDORA] Non-Eudora Topics on This List

Mike **************END OF ORIGINAL MESSAGE TEXT************** Sorry Mike, but as often as not, discussing Eudora problems involves much more than just PURE Eudora questions and answers. The fact that many Eudora users know very little about anything else in Windows hampers giving help to them. Having to learn how to use Eudora, while knowing little about Windows, really screws up the "learning curve" for users. If users like Mari, Jack, and others don't step in and help out on non-Eudora items, it would be kind of like trying to give advice in Japanese. So, when "computerese" is used, members can read the "words" about Eudora, yet not really understand. As an example, many, many queries have been made about Eudora's appetite for System Resources. Well, if we don't discuss, even just a little, what Resources are, how Windows uses them, I'm afraid many members might just shake their heads and give up. Yes, the latest threads HAVE become somewhat off-topic, but I truly believe we are doing something useful for our subscribers. If anyone DOESN'T need all the general help on non-Eudora subjects, then my advice is to just delete the non-Eudora email. We can all help here by making sure we change the subject line when we reply to an email and change the subject. That way users can see exactly what the message is about and delete it if it doesn't apply to them. SgtGeorge

    3. Jack, thanks a bunch for this. I really need such help here on this List. I'm so glad to have a computer-savvy person on board. As an aside, EUDORA-MAIL has mutated into something other than just Eudora, and it doesn't bother me one bit. I had subscribed to the COMPUTERS List at Rootsweb, in hopes of finding the same kind of cross-talk that we do here. Not so! Just a bunch of what appears to be teenagers, talking about "over-clocking" their systems and other general "hacking". After a couple of weeks, I unsubscribed. No help there for the things we discuss! Again, thanks, I really appreciate it, SgtGeorge (P.S. If there are any other "gurus" on this List, please feel free to contribute anything you can.) If you use the net right this is about right. The problem is knowing where to go and what to do when you get there. If I get a spare moment today, before I have to go back to work, I will try to find a starting place for the list. Jack This is a quickie, you must read the data on each of the sites below, this is a 10 minute search, so is just a representation of what is available. I use two of these sites frequently. Be sure to learn about cycles when you buy from someone like mobshop. On pricematching, learn how to do it right. You can save a lot it you get into it in a good way. I wish I had the time to use it right. Also, some lists have several members scanning local stores of national chains to spot good prices, and spreads the word. A good example was when the Kodak DC265 digital camera went from $899 to $799 in the Office Depot chain, they put the wrong price in the general computer, for $625 as I remember. It showed up on the Kodak list, and in about 30 hours, we cleaned out the stores from coast to coast. Many of us bought 3, and after selling two on e-bay, had a no cost camera left, with money in our pocket. Office Depot realized something was wrong within hours, but was almost 30 before they changed the price. Gave us all a great buy. Here is a short list: Microsoft Office 2000 Professional 32 Bit, the whole banana. http://www.mobshop.com/cycles?cycle_id=270048 Electronics in general. http://www.mobshop.com/ Stepping off point for several. Frequently has % off for several sites, or rebates. http://www.streetcentral.com/ A second starting point. http://www.techbargains.com/ This one a bit much for most, but lots of info. http://anandforums.gisystech.com/ Other odd one. http://www.pricematches.com/ Have fun, but be careful, as not all is it seems at times on the best of sites. 1. Re: [EUDORA] "NoLoveBug" Program (Keeps VB from Running)
    2. George W. Durman
    3. If you're using the new ZoneAlarm version, you don't need "NoLoveBug". ZoneAlarm prevents ANY VB Script files from running. I recommended "NoLoveBug" before ZoneAlarm was updated. Also, it might cause problems if you use programs that use scripting functions, that is, it prevents ANY scripting in Windows. ZoneAlarm only acts on VB Script found in email attachments. It's your choice. Adding it WON'T hurt anything. Just as an observation - I look for QualComm to add, to a future update, the ability to stop execution of VB Script in email. You can already disable the ability to click and run executable attachments, i.e., .exe files, and adding the ability for VB files just makes sense. Just a hunch. When a virus is opened in your email or anywhere on your computer this software stops it from running. The software turns off the ability of these viruses to run the VB scripting capabilities of Microsoft Windows. Full functionality can be re-enabled with a mouse click at any time. There is no need to update this software daily as it only works with VB Script- type Viruses. This does NOT replace anti-virus software. Used with anti-virus software, it provides an immediate relief to the many versions of the "ILOVEYOU" virus released every day. Most anti-virus software has to release new definition files daily to keep up with the variant strains of the virus to protect you. This software protects against ALL the variants as they come out, making it a faster way to protect against the viruses under different names. This works with your regular anti-virus software and does not replace it. The software has no expiration date. The software does ask 3 times over 90 days for a small donation. The software includes a complete restore or un-install function to restore your computer back to the way it was before you installed the software. NoLoveBug Software does not fix your computer if you have already run the virus. This software disables the scripting function in Windows 95/98/2000 to disallow these type of viruses from infecting. That also applies to different versions of the same AV program. (I guess that would be like being married to sisters; not as bad as being married to two unrelated spouses, but deadly, just the same.) SgtGeorge Sgt George, I just installed McAfee 5.0 and am going to watch it for a month or so and see how I like it.. if I don't, then I'll uninstall and use Norton 4.0. So far so good, :-) What I don't like is that it found a corrupted file with kak in it and would not clean or delete it.. only quarantined it.. ?????? why It was infact a file that I unzipped from one of my zip disks... geepers.. Now, I'm going to ck all of them once again. I had done this several days ago with the Try Before You Buy Norton.. and it didn't catch it.. I wonder why.. but, I do know that after 3 days, the TBYB program stopped working.. ginger **************END OF ORIGINAL MESSAGE TEXT************** Ginger, I think the problem is in the configuration. The quickest way to get to System Scan Properties is to right-click on the "V-Shield" sitting in your tray, move the mouse to "Properties", then click on "System Scan". Click on the "Action" tab. Under "Possible Actions", you will see 5 different choices you can check. You have to check them in order to have them available as options when a virus is found. Make sure you have them checked. Bet you don't! (GRIN) (If you just happen to not have "Show Icon in the Task Bar" checked, you need to do so, so you will have access to all of McAfee's functions from the Task Bar. Go to the McAfee directory and find "vsconfig.exe". Double-click it. When it opens, make sure you are in the "System Scan" tab. Down at the bottom, check the last box. Now McAfee VShield will always be available in the Tray.) While we're at it, all of you should make sure you have enabled all of McAfee's functions. When you get to the VSConfig window, look on the left. Starting at the top, there are System Scan, E-Mail Scan, Download Scan, Internet Filter, and Security. Start with System Scan. Click it. Make sure "Enable System Scan" is checked. Select from the other options how you want Scan configured. I recommend you check all six of the first boxes, under "Scan Files on". In "What to Scan", this is up to you. If you don't have 17 Gb of files on your hard-drive like I do, I would suggest you choose "All Files" and "Compressed Files". If a scan takes too long, you can always go back and choose "Program Files only". Under "E-Mail Scan", check "Enable Scanning of E-Mail Attachments" and under "E-Mail System", check both boxes. Under "Download Scan", check "Enable Download Scanning". Select "All Files" and "Scan Compressed Files". Under "Internet Filter", check all boxes. Under "Security" I don't have this one enabled. It's for "pass-wording" the use and configuration of McAfee. Hope this helps, SgtGeorge

One thing that Epson has done is assure that the code for the drivers is 100% compatible with the latest systems, and with Win95 and Win98. The Epson printers, using the "high speed connections between the computer and the printer, seem to not have the same problems as does HP. I wonder why.. but, I do know that after 3 days, the TBYB program stopped working.. ginger Mike & Ginger Woodcock/EagleRun Australian Shepherds [email protected] http://www.eaglerun1.com Ginger's WebDesign is here to help with your Web Needs, Give us a call, or email with your questions.
