I am thinking of converting from a straight dial-up connection to a DSL line. I know that with computers one rarely can make a change without creating some incompatibility or conformation change. Will this occur with Eudora 5. x if I go on DSL service? Tom Tom Krakauer Bahama, Durham County, NC tkrakauer@mindspring.com
Hello Listers, I have been using Eudora Pro 4.2 for about two years now. I have previously used several others. I would like to create a mailing list of a dozen or so names in the family that would constitute a mailing list for family matters. Am I overlooking something in Eudora that would do this. I can't find a way at all. I did it with Netscape Communicator Mail and OE. However, because of the rampant problems with these and the spread of unwanted using their address books, I don't want any addresses in their address books. If there is a way that I may be able to do this with Eudora please let me in on the secret. Thanks, Dean

You do this by: Tools > Options > Attachments > then check "Delete attachments when emptying Trash" That way the attachment doesn't stay in your attachment folder. Just a word of caution, if you get an attachment that you want to keep, but not the actual email, first move the attachment to another location, then delete the email. Debbie
Hi All, After running NAV, I was informed that I had the hybris worm virus. Yet again. I am positive that I scan everything BEFORE I open since I got this twice in April. I feel like I must be doing something wrong. Last night someone sent me an excel attachment, which I scanned first. It was OK. Shortly after, I received the Snow White letter -- I didn't open, sent it right to trash, then emptied the trash. Is there some other way I should be doing this?? The file in quarantine is this - c:/Program Files/Qualcomm\Eudora\attach\joke.exe Somewhere in NAV (more info) I read "this virus destroys the program it infects. To remove this virus from your computer, use NAV to delete the infected file and then replace it with a copy of the original." Sorry for the stupidity, but does this mean I should reinstall Eudora or are they referring to the "joke.exe" application? (which of course I wouldn't want anyway) Thanks for any help. Linda
Remembered in Vietnam are ... ... the US commander who was responsible for a major massacre on civilians, and although convicted, never had to go even to prison, but runs now a jewelry shop in the States ... ... the few US heroes, who went in with their copter between those who were shooting at the helpless, aiming their board gun at their fellows in order to stop it, and then pulled a few half dead Vietnamese out of the trenches and flew them to a hospital ... ... a former senator (Kerrey) who received orders of merit, but now admits, that his unit was killing innocent old people, women and children. One of his former comrades says, they knew quite well at whom they were shooting..... ... the couple of US service men and their Vietnamese colleagues who died some weeks ago in a helicopter crash here in Vietnam while searching for the bodies of a few fallen US soldiers. [where I as a German ask myself, why so much money is spent on retrieving remains from Vietnam, while little was done after WWII to retrieve remains from Germany]. ... ... the US government which is slowly starting to accept responsibility for Agent Orange related damages on US service personnel, but still denies it to the Vietnamese who were sprayed with it, and to whom a few Dollars would make a huge difference. ... ... the US vets, who come back to their former areas and - together with their former enemies - now build schools, hospitals, peace parks. ... ... the US vets, former POW here, who in their position as congressmen, Ambassador, senator, now try to "normalize" the relations between both countries - even if it might make them unpopular - because they know, that this is what would help both peoples most. Sgt, I always look forward to your posting for Memorial Day.. Each time it brings back warm feelings about my uncles that I've lost through the years. My mother was 1 of 14. So, you can imagine how lonely it was during the war. 8 brothers and everyone went into the service.. One died tragically on his return home. He got off the train and he and several buddies were driving home by car through the mountains.. It was icy and began to rain...you can imagine the rest of the story. He was 23 and the youngest son. The oldest son died in a MS VA hospital. He was a POW and his body was riddled with Shrapnel <sp>. As well has his mind destroyed while in the camps. One was lost oversees when his fighter went down and was never found.. The others are still around and growing old naturally. Thank Goodness..:-) Thanks again. And as always, My Hat's Off to you and the many many men and women that have served our country to help keep it free.....God Bless you all.....:-) ginger At 05:08 AM 5/15/01 -0400, you wrote: >Things to ponder this upcoming Memorial Day, May 28th > > THE THINGS THEY CARRIED: > >They carried P-38 can openers and heat tabs, watches and dog tags, insect >repellent, gum, cigarettes, Zippo lighters, salt tablets, compress >bandages, ponchos, Kool-Aid, two or three canteens of water, iodine >tablets, sterno, LRRP- rations, and C-rations stuffed in socks. Hi Debbie, Thanks for the reply. Checked out the link & copied. Did as suggested in the solution, including reinstalling Eudora (yet again) but still no change. Decided to get game & editted the PREFS.JS file (which the Help Note said not to - made sure I had a copy of it before I started though), & cleaned up a bit of stuff that was now redundant. Guess what..... Now works OK. Even loads faster now I got rid of a whole lot of outdated stuff. Thanks again. Cheers Peter. Hi all, Recently decided to try out upgrading Pro 4.2.2 to V5.1 After having many attempts at downloading, finally got all the file, & decided to try it out. Was somewhat disappointed in that:- 1. all the icons had changed plus my 1 line of icons changed to 2 part lines. 2. went to having to show ads, which I DIDN'T want. Anyway, to cut a long story very short, I uninstalled V5.1 & reinstalled Pro 4.2.2 Noticed that next time I started Netscape V4.73, that there was an error message stating that POSTAL.DLL was missing, so Netscape was to be used as the default emailer. I have tried reinstalling (uninstalling first) both Netscape & Eudora, but the problem remains. Also, searched the Registry for the entry & couln't find it. Searched Windows 95 CAB files & also nothing. No mention of this DLL file anywhere. Now the question........... Can someone tell me where the reference is to this DLL file, or where I can get a copy (don't think I really need it though, just need to remove the reference). TIA Peter. Good Morning Sgt. George, Thanks again for your help. Since I don't have the slightest idea what any of the "headers" are, which are listed in your "settings", I will go with what you have chosen. Learn a new thing every day :-) Best wishes, Karima > Just be aware that those headers > are the ones that I don't want to see. Your settings may vary. > You may want to see some of the ones I don't want to see, and, > vice versa, you may want to hide some others.
It doesn't matter where you paste it, as long as it's under the [Settings] header. I always put such new things DIRECTLY under the header so that I know where they are. Yes, copy and paste the entire text, including "TabooHeaders=" and everything that comes after it. Just be aware that those headers are the ones that I don't want to see. Your settings may vary. You may want to see some of the ones I don't want to see, and, vice versa, you may want to hide some others. Ok, silly me, I did find the notepad, eudora and the ini file. I have opened it up in the notepad, now I have two more questions: (1) Do I past the "tabooheaders test" DIRECTLY under the [Settings] line OR do I go to the bottom of the page and paste it there? 2) Should I post the entire text below: TabooHeaders=X-FID,X-FIT,X-FCOL,X-FCAT,X-FDIS,X-FVER,X-BG,X-BGT,X-BGC,X-BCPX ,X-BGPY,X-ASN,X-ASNF,X-AN,X-ANF,X-AP,X-APF,X-AD,X-ADF,X-ASH,X-ASHF,X-PRIORIT Y,X-AUTO,X-CNT,MIME-VERSION,MESSAGE-ID,CONTENT-,RECEIVED,X-ACCEPT,REFERENCE, CONTENT-,X-FROM,OLD-DATE,X-MSMail,Old-To,X-MimeOLE,Resent-Message-ID,X-Loop, Precedence,Resent-Sender,Resent-From,Errors-To,X-Bundle-ID,List-Help,List-Po st,List-Subscribe,Delivered-To,X-Authentication,X-Mac,X-To,Return-Path,X-Mim e,List-Unsubscribe,List-Archive,X-Topica-Loop,Priority,X-No-Archive,Mailing- List,In-Reply-To,Auto-Submitted,X-MS-Embedded-Report,Importance,X-Original,X -Mailing-List,Old-Content-Type Thanks for your help and your patience. Karima, EUDORA.INI should be located in C:\EUDORA. Just use NotePad, or other plain text utility, and open the file. At the very top, you will see [Settings].
