Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that if any of you are interested, the following Rootsweb mailing lists are now officially up for adoption. As I really don't have the time that needs to be put into them, I am hoping a more devoted list mom or dad, will step forward. :) This is a "first come, first served" adoption, and if you request to adopt, and don't hear back from me immediately, please be patient. I am searching for information about James Alexander Etherton, born June 22, 1845 in Parrottsville. He served in the 8th Tennessee Infantry, company K between 1863 and 1865. After the war he moved to DeKalb Missouri where he married Lucinda Roberts in 1869. He later moved his family to Troy, Kansas. His daughter, Arria Etherton, became my great-grandmother. I would very much like to find out about his parents, and a connection with the Hale family that he mentions in a manuscript describing what he witnessed at the beginning of the War in his town. He also describes a military engagement between a Captain Gorman and Jim Lane, and a lynching of a Union prisoner. I own two pictures of him and his family, taken some time during his stay in Missouri. Your help and leads would be much appreciated. Sincerely, Carol Kotsch
Betty, I'm sure you can retell them in such a way that his personality is captured. I suggest retelling his stories by wrapping them inside of your own story. What I mean is to begin by saying something like, "I'll never forget the stories Dad used to tell." And then go on to recall the circumstances of the telling of the story. If you remember the day, the circumstance that prompted the story, or whether he often told them of an evening, then include those details along with the words he would use. Try to achieve his way of speaking, and put the words in the form of quotations. Quoting a person seems to retain the "life" of the words much more than paraphrasing the story. Just give it a try, and if you want some help, I'll be glad to have a look at it, and, perhaps by asking questions, I can help you recall more you might want to write down. Sincerely, Ruth Rogers Love is, above all, the gift of oneself. ~Jean Anouilh ----- Original Message ----- From: "macbetty" <macbetty@bigskytel.com> To: <ETN-OZ-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, December 10, 2005 6:24 PM Subject: Re: [ETN-OZ] Who is the story teller in your family? > thank you Ruth that is a very generous and kind offer you have > extended---I know I am very guilty of not writing down some of my > fathers sayings and tales and I really should . list my DNA is at family tree. and very soon the data should be on the WORLDWIDE MOORE DNA PROJECT. at family tree it seems i'm getting a number of possible matches. so far it seems i'm a MOORE. 1 has me 2 numbers from 1 MOORE. hope someone on here has a MOORE DNA done. my great grandparents as we are told were JACK & NANCY MAYES MOORE. Nancy b.1845 in RAY Co.MO. if this is the right 1. their son said JACK was from TX. i sort of doubt it. note: the DNA seems to point to a very close match to a CAMERON. odd as none are in my lines. my base home counties are CLAIBORNE & KNOX Cos.,TN. my gramp's was born in KNOX Co.TN. married SARAH TOWNSLEY in CLAIBORNE Co.TN. 2 of his brothers JAMES HOUSTON MOORE m.ROSA BROWN, raised family in KNOXVILLE,TN. THOMAS JEFFERSON MOORE, 1st marr a GRUBBS. 2nd ANNABELLE POE?. WILL missing. AGNES. marr/divorced in TN. no names known. went to OREGON. a possible AGNES i found marr to a HUGHES. an obit lists this 1 with 3 sons by JORDON. ELIZABETH "LIZZY" m. TOWNSLEY. no kids. please if anyone here has their MOORE DNA at family tree eme. i have a list. thanks Ray Moore.
