Surnames: Etherington, Morton, Pennock Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ZUV.2ACIB/64 Message Board Post: August 3, 1774: To The Public Whereas a certain Martha Morton, wife of John Morton, which said John Morton did live in this city for several years, and in or about the year 1767 he was listed by Captain George Etherington, in they Royal American Regiment; now the said Martha would willingly be called Martha Pennock. These are to certify to all whom it may concern, that she is not my lawful wife, for, several years after the subscriber was married to the above Martha, her husband, John Morton, was alive and a Soldier in one of the companies of that regiment that Captain George Etherington did belong to. Now I do forewarn all persons not to trust her on my account, for I will not pay any debts of her contracting; and further, I do forewarn all persons not to pay her any money that is due to me, or that may become due to me hereafter. Philadelphia, July 28, 1774.
