Author: JosephAnderson65 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.etheridge/656.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Fascination with history and genealogy go hand in hand, don't they? I thought that the history that I studied in high school was interesting enough, but at the time, I didn't make the personal connection between American history and my own family history. It never occurred to me that those people who were clearing virgin land, building log cabins, fighting Indians and the King (or the Rebels - yes, I had them on both sides) were my ancestors. The study of US history would have been much more immediate and exciting had I realized that, in a sense, I was there! I would suggest that every course in American history should also include a short unit on genealogy. Joe Anderson Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: teachersocialstudies Surnames: Ethridge/Ethredge/Etheridge Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.etheridge/656/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have just read the fascinating information that you found the 40-page booklet and the many responses you received since 2001. It is now 2014 and I would treasure a copy. My ancestor is Thomas Ethridge/Etheridge/Ethredge. Currently, I am working on membership in Daughters of 1812 through Allen Ethridge. When I complete this documentation, my next task is to prove my kinship to Thomas, the Immigrant to Virginia for Colonial Dames of the 17th Century. Genealogy is far more fascinating than cooking and cleaning house!!! I am a retired teacher of Georgia History to hormonal eighth graders. DeLois Williams Gainey in Athens, GA. Author: DNewGA Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.etheridge/653/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The book "TEN GENERATIONS OF THE ETHEREDGE-ETHERIDGE - ETHRIDGE FAMILY IN AMERICA" by Fae A. Etheredge & Ema Etheredge Tipton has been listed as "out-of-print" for a long time when you search Amazon or other online book store resources. For quite a while, the only source that anyone seemed to know about was finding it in some selected libraries, like the Columbus, GA, library. Of course, you could not check it out though, and it is a large book. I found where you can get it though. J&W Enterprises has it available for $30 plus shipping. http://www.jw-enterprises.net/family.htm You need to complete his mail order form and mail a check to him to get it. Shipping charges are listed on the mail order form. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I suggest going at least to 67 markers. I don't know if Ancestry DNA has a project fo Etheredge/Ethridge/Etheridge, but I know that Family Tree DNA as a project with 20 members located here: http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Etheridge I believe that you can get the DNA testing done with either group and enter the project regardless of where you went with for testing (i.e. - you could use Ancestry DNA, but still enter the Family Tree DNA project, and just manually enter your results). I'm not positive on that though, so do a little research and email the Group Administrator of that group. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
