    2. Jim Jackson
    3. We just wanted to encourage you all to make use of this list in your family searches. A large number of Rootsweb lists have been made inactive due to no messages over a period of time. We want to keep as many lists active as we possibly can and your participation will help toward that goal. If you have a "brick wall" in your family search, send in a message with as much information as you have and let's see if someone may be able to help fill in those blanks. Best wishes, Jim and Di

The 1920 census was transcribed incorrectly. Harris O Etheridge was living with brother Alvin and parents Joseph Etheridge, Jr and mother Lydia [Hassell]. In 1880 Harris was listed as Harris D Etheridge.. In 1930 Harris O Etheridge was listed as married and was in the Anna State Hospital for the Insane in Anna, Union, IL. Illinois State Records lists Harris O Etheridge born 28 May 1866, IL and died 2 Jun 1931, Anna Union, IL. He was buried 4 Jun 1931 in Edwards County, IL., I found other family members buried in Edwards but not Harris. Joseph Etheridge, Sr., and Eliza Bridger were married 5 Jul 1829 in Billingshurst, Sussex, England. Joseph is not the son of James and Jenny as their son Joseph was baptized 20 Apr 1804 in Bolney, Sussex while your Joseph wasn't born until 14 Jun 1804. I did find a posting that Eliza was daughter of William Bridger and Rhoda Smart married 7 Oct 1793, Wisborough, Sussex. I found no proof these are Eliza's parents. Hope this helps. I think there were at least three Dempseys in the late 1700s. I see Isaiah's death record in Virginia stating that his father was named Dempsey and his mother named Elizabeth. I see a transcript of a will of a Dempsey Etheridge with wife Elizabeth (Bradley) but Isaiah is not listed as a son in the transcript. It is amazing how much these folks recycled the same names (but they had so many children that I guess they ran out of ideas)! 1. [ETHERIDGE] 1799/1812 Louisiana - William Eldridge or William Etheridge
    2. deldridge8 via
    3. Hi, Below are some notes for a William Eldridge in LA 1799/1812. However, on the 1820 census for Natchitoches, LA, living 4 houses apart are John Self and William Etheridge. I am researching as a WILLIAM ELDRIDGE. However, do ya'll have a WILLIAM ETHERIDGE in Louisiana at this time? Could he be yours? Thanks, Donna Eldridge January 31, 1825 American State Papers 031, Public Lands Vol. ; Publication No. 445. 228. Mary Routh Booker of the parish of Natchitoches, filed her notice claiming, by virtue of habitation, occupation, and cultivation, a tract of land lying within the late neutral territory, situated on a branch running into the Bayou Provencal, about half a mile below the Ewany trace, and containing 640 acres. The claim is supported by the following testimony taken before the board: “PETER SYDICK and JOHN BAPTIST SYDICK being duly sworn, say that they know the land claimed by Mary Routh Book in her above notice; that said land is lying and situate as is therein described; that the same was inhabited, occupied, and cultivated by John Self, by his living and growing corn, &c., thereon, on and previous to February 22, 1819; that said Self raised one crop on the land, and sold the same to Thomas Villars, who continued said inhabitation, occupation, and cultivation one year, and then sold the land to the claimant, who was uninterruptedly continued said inhabitation, occupation, and cultivation from that time to this day; and that the claimant’s improvement on the land claimed embrace about eight acres.” We are of opinion this claim ought to be confirmed, and in the abstract have classed it with claims of the “third class.” Land claims in the western district of Louisiana. Communicated to the House of Representatives, April 8, 1816. Date: Monday, April 8, 1816 Publication: American State Papers 030, Public Lands Vol. 3; Report: Publication No. 245; No. 286.—268. Mary Ruth claims six hundred and forty superficial acres of land, situated on the southeast side of Spanish lake, about nine or ten miles westward of the village of Natchitoches, on what has heretofore been called Neutral Ground, accompanied by a plat of survey by J. Knowlton, a deputy surveyor, dated the 16th May, 1809. The evidence of Peter Sydicks, taken the 27th October, 1812, establishes the land to have been inhabited and cultivated for sixteen consecutive years preceding this date, by the claimant. No. 287.—469. William Eldridge claims six hundred and forty superficial acres of land, situated on the bayou Leglise, on what has heretofore been called Neutral Ground, accompanied by a plat of survey by J. Knowles, a deputy surveyor, dated the 16th of May, 1809. The evidence of Peter Sydicks, taken the 27th October, 1812, established the occupancy and cultivation of the land for thirteen consecutive years preceding this date, by the claimant.
