A lot of the northern line Estes were Quakers .. both the emmigrant founders of the northern "line", brothers Matthew and Richard Estes of Kent, England, were Quakers. Many of their descendents remained in the religion. > Note: I believe that the dating pattern given in the book sticks with > Quaker dating: for example 1871, 5, 19 would be 1871 5th month, 19th > day. I'm not sure myself .. but they may have used the old english calendar, in which the year started in mid march. That used the same months, but for dates in jan to early march they sometimes gave a double year, ie: 5th february, 1827/1828. But not always. I dont know for sure how they'd have numbered the months (the days were the same), but I'd guess the 5th month would be the 5th month after march, that is, the 19/5/1871 would be 19/8/1871 by our calendar. Well by the current english calendar .. 8/19/1871 by the one you use over there. :) But I'd suggest anyone who uses the info April posted to confirm the above speculations on my part. BTW .. April, could you please send me a detailed source for where you got these details from .. title, publisher, year etc .. thanks. > 1871, 5, 19. Lewis A.
