Found this at the library today: Story of Bell County Texas, Vol.1, Bell County Historical Commission pg. 509. Edmond T. Estes Edmond T. Estes, a native of Tenn., was born in 1816, the son of James D. Estes, who according to the 1850 census in Washington Co. Texas, was born in 1786. The family arrived in Texas prior to the Texas Revolution. E.T. Estes, a veteran of 1836, received 320 acres of land on Hurricane Creek, Grimes County, Texas, on December 8, 1855, from E.M. Pease, governor of Texas, for his service in the war. The 1846 poll list for the Republic of Texas includes the names of Edmond T. Estes and James D. Estes, residents of Washington Co. Tx.. On December 22, 1846 E.T. Estes and Jane McDowell were married in Washington Co. On November 21, 1850, J.D. Estes deeded 1107 acres of land on a stream called Canoy, Montgomery Co. Texas, to E.T.Estes. Montgomery and Grimes Counties join, and Estes located his family in Grimes Co. His wife, Jane McDowell Estes, died there about 1852, and in 1853 he married Sarah Ann McDowell. Estes purchased 700 acres of land from William McDowell on December 15, 1856. This acreage was located on South Nolan Creek about six miles west of Belton in Bell Co. Tx.. The property became the family homestead and a frame house was built which served the family until it burned in 1860. This house was replaced by a rock house which remains a landmark in Nolan Valley. Early in 1858 the settlers residing in Green Morgan Grove on west side of J.M. Porter Survey on Nolan Creek commenced to build a house to be used by all Christian denominations for preaching and a school. On February 23, 1858, E.T. Estes deeded on acre of land for this purpose. Estes died November 6, 1886, and his second wife, Sarah A., (May 7, 1830- Nov. 3, 1905) are buried in marked graves in McDowell Cemetery. Children of Estes' first marriage were: James W.; C.Perry; and Margaret Ann who married W.G. Murphy. He and Sarah had the following children: Robert T.; J.Thomas; Josephine, who married M.A. Fuller; Ben McCoulough; Mary Ella; who married Dulane W. Mangham; and Amanda who married E.M. Davis.
