G'day folks, The following has nothing to do with genealogy, it's a legal requirement which needs to be posted here (and subsequently archived on the rootsweb mail-list archives). Over the past month or two I've been occasionally posting material I've extracted from "Estes Trails", the snail equivalent of this mail-list. I was recently notified that this contravenes rootsweb policy. After consultation with the list-owner, I've been informed that if I could get permission from the editor of "Estes Trails" and post that permission to this list then I can continue to post extracts from that magazine here. The same would, presumably, apply to anyone else who wishes to post anything apart from queries to this list (or any other rootsweb list) - tho' you'll have to get permission yourself. I have been in touch with Larry Duke, the editor of "Estes Trails", and he has happily given permission. I am attaching an extract from his email below. Hopefully this'll legally cover both myself and the list-owner. Contact details for Larry Duke are available upon request, I've withheld his snail/phone/fax details, which were included in the "permission note" that he sent to me. regards, Dr. David Powell. ******************************************* David: You certainly have my permission to use the material out of Estes Trails for posting to the rootsweb. Number one, Estes Trails is not copyrighted. We only do this as a hobby, not a business. Anyone is welcome to anything I have. Number two, it would be nearly impossible to determine who was using original source material and who was using secondary source and I think it would be splitting hairs. I am sorry you have encountered this trouble. Please use Estes Trails material as you wish. We have nothing to hid nor protect. We all gain by sharing information! Larry D.
