Estes parents, but I know some of his siblings names and that they were in the 1880 census in Lee County, Mississippi. John C. was born in Alabama and his parents were both born in South Carolina. G'day Denise, We've been in touch before about this ... but anyways .. Sylvanus is a rare name and is a corruption of Sylvester, a name long associated with the Estes/Eastes family, from the early days back in england. The only occurances of Sylvanus I have are Sylvanus ESTES (1765-1823), born Henry Co, VA, died Chester Co, SC, and his descendents. The eldest son I have for Sylvanus was Carter Estes, born 1800, Chester Co, SC. He is a possible candidate, so it might be worth looking for him. I have only one wife for Sylvanus, Nicy Carter, born c.1775. Given the difference in ages and that Sylvanus would've been around 30 when they married, there may have been an earlier marriage and an older son. But, Carter would fit in with the dates you've given .. born 1800, he could easily have fathered childen from 1824-1838 .. in fact with kids born in that range, I'd have said their father was born c.1800. I have nothing further on Carter other than that he was born 1800, Chester Co, SC. Several first cousins of Carter ended up in Lee and Itawamba Counties, MS. David, The name of Carter Estes rang a bell with me. I looked in some of my books (where I hadn't looked in years) and I found the following marriage: "Carter C Estes to Sarah Francis Murry 15 Oct 1857 in Mc Cracken Co. KY. The surety was F.C. Estes. F.C. Estes gave his consent as guardian of Sarah F Murry. B Small, clerk; R.G. Grundy, D.C. Married Oct. 15 in presence of H.C. Murry and J.R. Johnston. Signed W.B. Walker." The book is McCracken Co.
