G'day folks, Got this query today. Anyone have anything on it? Moses Estes/Eastes who married Lucy Hall in 1815 in Davidson Co., TN; had 4 children including Jesse (ca. 1817) and William G. and 2 dau.; died 1827 while trying to cross a river---anyone have any clues on about this Moses Estes? Thanks, David.
Hi Everyone, I am needing some help with the Kelly line that connects to our Estes' and was wondering if anyone has any info on them? I know there are several of you working the same lines I am. What I am looking for info on is Noey? G. Kelly and Malinda J?. I have John W. Estes married to Susannah Kelly and Constantine Estes married to Cythia M. Kelly BUT I do NOT have their parents or siblings. Noey Kelly sold land to David Ray in 1861 but I don't know any dates on him other than that. So if anyone can help with the Kelly line I sure would appreciate it. Thanks Connie
I am searching for parents and siblings of RHODA ESTES b. 1745-1778 d. Aft. 1810. I do not know parents given names, only an indication that they were both b. before 1765. Rhoda married Henry Barnes b. 1720-1778 d. Aft. Jan 29, 1791 and they had a daughter Celia Barnes who married David Pinkerton April 6, 1811 in Davidson County, Tennessee. I would appreciate any information on this Estes family. Thanks, Ester
Leo Estes wrote: > > 7142. JOHN M. ESTES RFD 3, Lawton, Okla... Thanks for that Leo. The ancestry of this John M Estes is actually well worked out (and no, it's not the John Minton/Moses Estes but another). The names mentioned in the article are all correct and all the people claimed to be his ancestors are .. however the relationships are a, ahh, tad mixed up. Elizabeth Hulsey was actually a generation earlier than he said. I have no idea if she was part indian or not .. I have no proof either way. The claim was rejected so I assume someone else wasn't convinced either. I have this John Estes charted, so if anyone wants to know his line, you know where to look. I'm rushed so dont have the time to copy out his ancestry here. :) cheers, David. -- ... under de-construction ('till I find something I wanna put here) DC2.D A+++! L^ Pfwl Bfl Fo R+++! Can anyone help me with my ggg grandmother, Virinda Estes Cornell? I am trying to find out some actual dates. She was the daughter of Edmund Estes (Son of Elisha Estes and Elizabeth Golding) and Charlotty Golding. If the census is correct, she was born in 1822. She married Henry Cornell in Tennessee. They are on the 1860 Pope County, Illinois Census as CORNELL, Virinda, 38, NC, Edmund, 9, TN; She is living next to her parents Edmund and Charlotty (Golding) Estes. I cannot seem to find her in any census before or after this date. Nor can I find a record of her death. (Cemetery listings come up empty.) I did find a "Molinda Cornell in Hamilton Tennessee as H-613-824; CORNELL, Henry 39; Molinda, 30; Tennessee 9, Susan 4, Henry Smith, 14, VA T. But, I cannot be sure that this is my ggg grandmother. Virinda's parents were all over the place (OC, Virginia, Lunenberg, Virginia; Sumner County, TN; Rowan County, NC, before settling in Pope County, Illinois). In other words Virinda could have been anywhere. If anyone has some access to Marriage Records of Tennessee (probably around 1840) or has any tips for finding this I'd appreciate your assistance, as I've been hitting my head against this break wall so long I'm dizzy. Hi: I know some of you have posted messages asking about some Estes lines having Indian blood. When I came across this record I thought I would pass it on. Leo "Cherokee by Blood; Records of Eastern Cherokee Ancestry in the U. S. Court of Claims 1906-1910" Vol. 3, compiled by Jerry Wright Jordan, Heritage Books, Inc. 7142. JOHN M. ESTES RFD 3, Lawton, Okla. Rejected. ... "My name is John M. Estes, and I am 45 years old. I live at Lawton, Okla. I claim my Indian blood through my father, Cicero Estes. He now lives at Bebee, Okla. I am the only one of my family who has applied to participate in this fund. My father did not apply because he had spent so much money trying to get his land in the Indian Territory. My father was born at Guinnette County, Ga. My father came west in 1859. My father was born in 1833. He settled in Tex. My father was about 1/16 Cherokee Indian. My father got his Indian blood through his father, Joel Estes. Joel lived in Ga., but was born in N. C. or in S. C. He came west about the same time we all did. I am mistaken it was the father of Joel Estes, my great grandfather, who was born in N. or S. C. His name was Joshua Estes, and he was 1/4 Cherokee. I do not know when or where Joshua Estes died. His mother my great great grandmother, Elizabeth Hulsey, who was 1/2 blood Cherokee, and I can remember her, she lived to be 107 years old. She died back in Ga. in Forsythe County. I do not know whether she mixed up with the Indians there, for when I was a boy there the Indians had all been moved from that locality." SIGNED: Jno. M. Estes, Lawton, Okla., Oct. 5, 1908.

Surely! Caty or Katy is the nickname for Catherine. My aunt was called Cat. Leo
I have a Catey or Caty Estes , her proper name was Catherine Hawkins and she married Edmund (Edward ) Estes . Two children, Harriet br. 1817 and Jane br. 1815. They were both born about 1797 in Culpepper Co VA. His father was Benjamin Estes, mother was Selah. Caty is a nick name or a "pet name" for Catherine. They died in either Bedford Co or Luenberg Co. Peg
Carol, I have often wondered about Caty, because that is not a name used in our line. There are no Catherines or Katherines In this branch. Also the Fosters and Goldings don't have that name either. Female names in our line tend to be Sarah, Elizabeth, Mary (Polly), and Ann. Then, suddenly a Caty. If you have any theories I'd love to know. Hi Everybody- I have had several requests for information on the various Elisha Estes from my files, so I am offering the complete file to those who are interested In the search for my elusive ancestor I compiled a listing of all the Elisha Estes I could find and included all information that was available at the time. Although the original intent of this file was to locate and isolate my Elisha ancestor, I would like to share it in hopes that someday, it can be expanded and/or corrected and used by everyone. I terminated my overall Elisha research in November 1999. This file represents about three years work of gathering and compiling of other people's records and carefully merging confirmed duplicates. This material does not contain any earth shaking evidence but may show a date or other clue that could lead to new discoveries when linked to someone else's records. After merging all positive duplications there were still 34 persons and there is probably more! There still may be duplications left in this file as some have very little information, not enough to permit merging at this time. I found there were so many Elishas, it was necessary to assign numbers to each for ease of identification. These numbers are arbitrary and not related to dates or other factors. They are shown in numerical order just the way they came up in my computer. (Number #3 was merged after the ID numbers were assigned but the numbers still range 1 through 34 - #3 is marked - Merged ) - My ancestor, the Elisha who died in Roane Co., TN in 1818, just happened to come up as #7. It has been determined he is not a duplicate of the others in the list. It is possible this number system could be adopted to identify the various Elishas in the future to prevent mis-communications. Since this material was originated to isolate my Elisha ancestor, I am sure more data is available on some of the others. This data was collected from many donors who often did not include their sources and all material is shown as received. This material may contain errors so it should be used only as a guide and not recorded or propagated as a fact. Extreme care has been taken to preserve the actual spelling of the given and surnames as recorded. I have no problem with people who refer to this material as Roy Eastes' Elisha File as long as it is in the context that it was compiled from of other people's records and the author does not verify the contents. Files cannot be attached to a Mail List letter, but I will send it to anyone who requests it. This file spans 88 pages and has been successfully attached to E Mail letters three times. However, there may be a problem with some internet providers since it is bulky. Drop me a line if you would like a copy. Best Regards to All Roy Eastes <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< END >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> When we record our heritage we take great pride in looking at our list of ancestors and admire their origins, migrations and accomplishments. But, what good is it - unless it’s true? We need stories and rumors, they are great and often lead to the truth! BUT - Help eliminate errors. Don't take anything as Fact! Check references for validity! If we don’t our children’s children will be led down false trails and they will never be able to find their true heritage.
G'day Bill, > Thanks for posting the AR census indices. Here is most of what I have > on: William L. Estes, Dallas Co, p.14, Jackson > 1850 Census, Jackson Twp., Dallas County Arkansas > ESTES, Wm. Those ones are linked. I'd have to go back and check which ones they were. As for a William L Estes, born c.1815, I have the following: . William Littleton ESTES (1816-1846) of Hancock Co, KY . +Elvira COLBERT; 1837, Hancock Co, KY [68,273] . . Warren W. ESTES (1840-1876) of Hancock Co, KY [273] . . Albert ESTES (1841-1878) of Hancock Co, KY [273] . . Emeline ESTES (1845-1876) of Hancock Co, KY [273] The kids don't match, so doesn't look like it's him. Oh well .. back to the coal face. :) I'll have a look for William Estes latter on .. but since there were Estes as far back as 1825 whom I can't account for .. and about 1/2 of all AR Estes in the census' I posted are also unaccounted for .. I'm not hopeful at the moment. > Looking for the origin of William L ESTES, born Tennessee. In 1850, > he was living near Marcus Estes. Bill Landers No ideas on Marcus alas. cheers, David. Estes, 1900-1864). Most entries seem to be from military cemeteries and most date from this century. The only details given were the cenmetery name, the perosn's name and dates. No additonal information. Might help someone .. G'day folks, The following indices were printed in Estes Trails, 1986, 6.4, pp.7-9 and are posted here with permission of the editor of Estes Trails. Note that these are only indices, so no additional information, such as ages, is given. I've marked with an "*" those which I've connected (sadly not a lot), so if anyone can identify the rest, I'd love to know. In the case of the 1860 index, I'm fairly sure it also includes some children and wives, but not all. Also I don't think the 1840-1860 indices are complete since I have Estes families who were definitely in AR at that time and who do not appear on one or more of those indices. P'haps they had wildly deviant spellings and the indexer didn't pick them up. If anyone can help identify some of the county abbreviations in the 1860 census, I'd appreciate that as well!
