I am new to this list, although I have been researching my Wood(w)ard(s), Presney and White ancestors in the East Ham Area for some time now. On the 1881 census my great grandmother has a brother, born c1875 in East Ham, whose name appears to be 'Debert' Woodard. I have searched for the birth of this boy without success and I have been unable to find the children of the family in 1891, although the father, George Thomas, does appear with his new wife Caroline and their children. I am unable to attach a copy of the 1881 census to my email, but I would be grateful if anyone could have a look at this and offer me their interpretation on what the youngest boy's name might be if not Debert, or if anyone could help me find the children in 1891. In 1881 the family is at 65 High Street, East Ham and the surname is listed as Woodard. Best regards Joanne

This would appear to be Herbert Woodard and there is a birth recorded for such a person in West Ham 1872, 3rd quarter, volume 4a, page 42. At that time the West Ham registration district would have covered East Ham which was still a comparatively small area to what it is today.
