Hello Listers I have a SWORD family who appears around the Thames in the late 1700s. A William SWORDS married a Mary BURTON in 1764 in Gravesend Kent, and had three children Isaac, William and Mary in the late 1770s. William senior was a Providore of Chadwell St Mary Parish. Isaac became a Mariner and married in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. His son William, also a Mariner moved up to Northumberland. There are a number of SWORD, SAWARD families in Essex, Surrey and London which could fit this family but the best fit seems to be in West Hanningfield. An Abraham SAWARD who was married to a Mary, had number of children in West Hanningfield, commencing in 1733 with an Abraham, 1734 with a William, 1736 with a John, and 1742 with a Jacob and an Isaac. There are earlier SAWARD events in West Hannington from the mid 1600s using the same names. The only possible marriage of an Abraham and a Mary who would fit is a Marriage in 1729 in Gillingham, Kent which seems a long way away so I have discounted it so far. Are there any listers who are after SAWARDS or variant names around West Hanningfield or further south to to Chadwell? Any suggestions appreciated. Jill Forster Sydney, Australia
