Bob in Ontario, you asked ..... I tried a search on Free BMD for the death reg. for Charles but he is not registered. Could i please ask if someone who has Ancestry.com if they would take the time to search for Charles STEPHENSON who died in the March qtr. of 1903. The GRO death index reference you need is as follows – Charles STEPHENSON (age 57) March qtr 1903 Romford 4a 267. The reason you couldn’t find it on FreeBMD was because the transcription shows the age (in error) as 5, not 57. You can easily check this for yourself by clicking on the spectacles symbol beside the FreeBMD entry and then selecting the ‘view the original’ link on the left side of the page. I have already submitted a correction to FreeBMD so hopefully the entry will be corrected on the website in due course. Duncan, Dundee
