Thanks for the quick replies here is a fuller picture the dots that need connecting..... * Our subject William Mooney born ca 1872 arrived in Canada 18 Jul 1886 from Liverpool on the SS Polynesian as part of the Cardinal Manning Party. (Polynesian Ship List: Microfilm reel: C-4535 Archives of Canada: Ship: POLYNESIAN Port of departure: Liverpool Departure Date: 8 Jul 1886 Port of arrival: Quebec Arrival Date: 18 Jul 1886 Party: Cardinal Manning Destination: Ottawa) * It has been suggested by the LMA that he may have been from the St. Mary's Orphanage Hounslow. * William does not appear on the 1881 census from St. Mary's Orphanage (http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/BRITISHHOMECHILDREN/2001-11/1006542143) * A William Mooney of the appropriate age appears in the 1881 census at the Rose Valley Industrial School, Shenfield (Brentwood) Essex. * We have two William Mooney infants of the approximate age appearing on the 1871 census, one of which is William son of Francis the bootmaker (1871 census) or boot closer (bapt. St. Margaret, Westminster) and Mary Ann of Gt. Chapel Street. * /Anecdote William claimed that he was born in Drury Lane. That could give some weight to the William age 2 mths in the 1871 census, son of Francis and Elizabeth of Westminister, St. John the Evangelist./
