Jean In 1908 Kelly's directory for Burnham on Crouch lists Gordon Ambrose who lived in Chapel Road, Burnham as a photographer. details are on my site - http://www.essex-family-history.co.uk/trade1908burnham.htm He is not in the 1894 or the 1933 kelly's so either he decided not to advertise or was not trading. This may help you to put an approximate date on your photo. I stand to be corrected but I believe that at this time photographers often doubled up with other jobs to make a living in small towns. Around this period I have come across references to a Gordon Ambrose as a sweet shop owner and as an early motor spares dealer so he may have lived a double life and photogarpshed as a sideline. Ambrose is a local family name - I have quite a few in my person index of names from this area. If there are any buildings or identifying features etc on the Ambrose photo if you want to e mail it to me off line I will try and identify the location for you.
