    1. Re: [Ess] Details on Certificates
    2. Yes, I know exactly what you mean. My mum watches the news avidly each day fascinated by all the murders and tragic events. She asks me to keep the newspaper for her to read all about the event and subsequent court case etc. But when I found out about my great grandmother strangling her baby granddaughter my mum didn't want to know. I was astounded. She didn't even want to read about the court case. She just said I shouldn't waste time on such a stupid pastime as genealogy. It makes me wonder if she and my father and the rest of the family all knew about it but preferred to keep it in the dark. Diana Re: I found some 'scandalous' details on my 19thC family - which I loved and so did those of my family who were interested in my research. As someone else has said, these things have made the individuals much more real to me. However I have not 'shared' these with my rather 'proper' elderly aunt, neither have I disabused her of the idea that we were descended from a famous London figure - why spoil the illusions of a life time! Oddly enough she really is not that interested in my research anyway, and was far more interested in the fact that I had bumped into someone in the Essex Records Office who went to school with one of my cousins!
