There was a time when getting to 50 or 60 was a great age. Nowadays, if we see/hear of someone dying at that age, it's more a case of s/he died young. Let's face it, we're born to die!

    3. This is an interesting point. I know what you meant but overall we're not living longer than our ancestors. It's just that more of us are reaching a decent age and there's less infant mortality. My 5g-grandmother reached 96. My 2g-grandmother's father, grandfather and g-grandfather all barely reached 50 but she carried on to 92. Her mother, grandmother and g-grandmother (the 96-year-old) all got into their 80s and beyond. Most of my direct line reached their 3 score-and-ten, if not more. I'm sure others also have the same to report. I wonder when the first person lived for 100 years ?????
