    3. Heather, Let us have the name of the son then perhaps we can find Louisa in the 1901 census and see where she was born, and her age, from that. This might then allow us to help find her in the 1891. How did you come to know about Louisa Powell if you have not found her either before or after the 1896 birth of her son? You must have something on her that lead you back to 1896. Or was it just finding her name on her sons birth cert. in 1896? if that was the case then how do you know that you have the right birth certificate copy if you didn't know the baby's mothers name before you got the copy? A home birth was the normal thing back then, and up into the 1940s, pre the National Health Service being set up. It cost money to go to hospital for a birth and even at home the doctor had to be paid for attending the birth. I doubt she gave birth in her employers house, she would likely be given notice by her employers once they found she was pregnant, I should think. It might be that as a domestic servant she was working in a house situated somewhere other than Paddington, perhaps Paddington was where her parents were living at the time she gave birth.
