Hello Joy, Yes, there is a rather excellent site on Pubs in much of the South East of England. This comprises of an amazing Essex Pubs site (originally built by Essex Pubby Hunter), and now has considerable extra information from many other counties. These include most of London, much of Suffolk, Kent, Hertfordshire, Sussex, Surrey and a new addition is Dorset. You can use the local search engine on the site, for the name Holden (for example); although the site/s are not exhaustive; and will never be complete. Start at http://londonpublichouse.com/ ; but this is one of many sites that are now running, and is more than just a Pubs site. You mention that John Brown Holden was in 39 years on his death certificate, when would this be? Have you tried to locate him in early census in the UK? Fathers Occupation Publican. Religion Church of England. On John Brown Holden's death cert his son stated he had been in NEW SOUTH WALES AUSTRALIA for 39 years. I can find nothing on JOHN BROWN HOLDEN prior to 1854 in Australia. I can't find his emigration he was possibly married when he emigrated. Does anyone know anything at all of this family? I live in Australia and have not done any international research before so I am flying blind. Is there such a thing as a registry of publicans maybe? Or can anyone help me with some websites which may be helpful? I would really appreciate any suggestions or help.
