    3. Hello Mary According to Andrew Barham's book "Lost Parish Churches of Essex" the church of St Mary was declared redundant in 1973. "This early 12th century church was converted into a house by the end of the decade. It includes a squat Tudor brick tower and some nice old doors and windows, mainly from the 14th century. Not open to the general public" Dick Mathews Mary Bryceland wrote: > Hello > > Can anyone tell me whether Little Oakley Church is still standing? > > I know that it is no longer used and there is a reference to it in the 1975 > reprint of the 1968 Shell guide to Essex which describes it as "isolated and > neglected, looks over Peewit Island and creeks of Hanford Water." > > I have looked on OS maps, and scanned the area on Google earth with no > success. > > Many thanks > > Mary Bryceland > > (Researching: Walter Batten, master mariner b.
