Ken, You do not mention whether you have visited this amazing site of Earl Colne records:- http://linux02.lib.cam.ac.uk/earlscolne/contents.htm Also, the SEAX database at the Essex Record Office is pretty good for early searches, using different variants of names. http://seax.essexcc.gov.uk/login.asp Best Kevan -----Original Message----- From: essex-uk-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:essex-uk-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Bart Simon Sent: 14 September 2008 02:07 To: essex-uk@rootsweb.com Subject: [Ess] Jas Markham of Earls Colne [!] Mye Goodye Cosynes !!! I have wandered far and wide, but yea, I found nothing. I then decided to do the same again, with my eyes open, look, seek, search, but yea, I found nothing.... There has been a very long search to find the parents of James Markham, father of Deacon Daniel Markham, of Earls Colne. A very large section of the Markhams of the US descend from this Daniel Markham born in Earls Colne in Essex in England. I have a huge amount of information on the Markham family in general, but the problem here is plain and simple: The parents of James Markham of EC is not clearly known as far as I know. Further, I simply do not have a single shred of primary information to point me anywhere to any other specific branch of this family up the scale. I do believe this can be resolved. I am trying ever so hard to assist to find the parents of one Jas Markham of Earls Colne. His surname is variously spelt [Markes, Marchant], but we are looking more into this James Markham to be a Markham. He is b: [Bet. 1598-1613 ?], and d:06-02-1679, and m:11-10-1632 Martha Collins. James was a Judge it seems of EC. His one son was Daniel Markham moved to New England and became a Deacon there. There is also an Abraham Markham in EC, whose possible son is Edward Markham. James and Abraham could be brothers, but this is not known at all. I truly need to know who James Markham's parents are. Ralph Josselin's Diary. My 3 questions are: 1) Who are James Markham's parents ?. 2) Anything that can point to his parents ?. 3) Were there any Markhams born in EC say 1600-1615 ?. = If I had to cut a fine line, I suspect this James (Jas) Markham of EC would be b:1610-12 or so. He could have moved there, but he might have been a land owner. His father must be well known enough to be recorded in the history books. I simply have no direction to connect any further elsewhere in this tree. = [Jas Markham householder buried in wool sworn before M Guyon 6.2.1679] [Martha Markham wife of Jas Markham buried 12.3.1669] [Jas Markham married to Martha Collins 11.10.1632] = This is my first posting to this list. James Markham of EC is closely connected to the Prentice and Turner families of EC it seems. I have a large volume of Markhams this James Markham could connect into, I simply do not have even one piece of information stemming from James Markham himself, .... , to any other branch of this Markham tree. There is much written about this line of Markham, but it seems that there is much mixed facts, and certainly no primary record found so far, to settle this matter forever.... Yours Sincerely, Ken Markham.... ================ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Any problems, please contact the List Admin: Essex-UK-admin@rootsweb.com ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ESSEX-UK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
