I was brought up in Hockley, went to primary school in Hawkwell and would have gone on to Southend High School, if the 1939 war hadn't broken out, and we moved away. Simple train journey from Hockley to Southend, and, if I remember correctly, (it was 70 years ago !), the High School was just by Southend station.
