Hi Lynne, ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lynne Hughson" <[email protected]> > I'm new to the Essex list - I am researching my Essex based family called Gunfield who lived > around St Osyth. Would be grateful for any info so that > I can get back o the previous generation > > Thanks> > Lynne Hughson Ancestry have him indexed as GANFIELD in 1851 - I've submitted a correction GUNFIELD on original page). One possibility in 1841 might be a George GLANFIELD, a chemist's apprentice in Chelmsford. It might help to have his fater's name from the marriage cerificate Marriages Dec 1842 (>99%) GUNFORLD George Tendring 12 475 IVES Martha Tendring 12 475 You will not be able to correct the entry on FreeBMD unles you can persuade the Registrar Generalto amend the Idex itself, which is a modern typewritten copy of the original index, but you can adda Postem note on FreeBMD. Order the cert from the GRO using just the bride's name. If the cert comes back with GUNFIELD, then ask the R-G to amend the index for future researchers.
