I am looking for a Charles Mortlock born 1816 in Essex. I have found him in the 1841 census at Orsett, where he is a Journeyman Miller. He is the father of James Franklin born in 1842 at Orsett, his mother is Susan Franklin who was a servant at Orsett Mill where Charles was working. He is named on Jame's birth certificate as the father although he never married Susan. I can find nothing about Charles, although there is a family of Millers called Mortlock in Suffolk and Wivenhoe but I can't find a link. Can any one help please, Regards, David

I can find entries on ancestry.com in the 1851 & 1861 census for a miller named Charles Mortlock but the year of birth doesn't match. Here are the details as they appear on ancestry- 1851 Charles Mortlock Age: 27 (year of birth c1824) Born: Bobbingworth, Essex, England Spouse: Rachel Occupation: Miller Living in the parish of Harlow, Essex - District 6a, Piece 1770, Folio 464, Page No. 41 1861 Charles Martluck Age: 39 (year of birth c1822) Born: Bobbingworth, Essex, England Spouse: Rachdl Occupation: Miller Living in the parish of Harlow, Essex - District 1, Piece 1065, Folio 18, Page No. 30 For what it is worth, there is a tree on ancestry.com that has Charles Mortlock as the father of James Franklin and it has Bobbingworth, Essex as Charles' place of birth.
