When my daughter got married last month, I happened to be present immediately before the wedding when the registrar wrote down her details ready to copy into the register during the ceremony. The father's name and occupation are required information, and it was only because I butted in with "Do we have to add that her father is deceased?" that that detail found it's way into the register! The registrar had had all the information long in advance, but they must ask it and write it down again freshly at the marriage, and whatever the bride & groom say on the day is what goes on the register/certificate.  Regards,Jan
