I'm sure I wrote that in a very old posting somewhere because a family letter mentioned that and another occupational surname as possibly being her maiden name, but every document I have found since with her maiden name on it-wedding record, children's baptisms (WM priest wrote down her maiden name!) all list Smith. so I've gone with the records as more likely than the letter, esp. since they weren't sure what her last name was. it was written by a granddaughter of Hannah's, and a great aunt of mine. I'm blanking for the moment on her name simply because I have gardening on the brain... I've searched for nearly 20 years. she has a tombstone but no death record, no will and the slightest of death notices, no obituary, a marriage record and her children's baptisms for documentation-and American census of 1850, '60 and '70. she eluded (is it part of the lost East of London census?) the 1841. if there was a family bible there's no mention of it among family members. one says all the genealogy had been done but it was in storage and a fire destroyed it, perhaps they meant the family bible. I had little trouble tracing the Quaker line, but much trouble tracing Hannah's. it doesn't help that Hannah is a name with so many variants, including Anna and Nancy.
