    3. I have been having trouble getting this message below through to the list in the past day or two so apologies if anyone has received this more than once. <<<<<<<<<<< Hi Jenny The LDS centres are run by volunteers and are not usually manned all day. You need to ring at odd times of the day and evenings to try and catch someone there. This is what I have found in the past with the centre in Barcelona which is the nearest to me, though a long way off. You can now order the films on line via the family search site at https://film.familysearch.org/customer/account/login/ This cuts out the need to contact your nearest centre in the first instance. The film will be sent to the centre that you specify and that centre will contact you when the film arrives. You can then arrange with the centre for a time and date to go and view the film, the film should be kept at the centre for 90 days. You can keep the film for longer by extending the loan period, or so the ordering pages of the site says. See the link on the page above entitled Ordering Help, then select the link "Place and Order Demonstration". This takes you through the ordering process step by step as an example. To place and order you have to create an account first and make sure you read the Terms & Conditions for this part of the site first. To look at the ordering demonstration you do not need to have an account My round trip to the centre in Barcelona is between 5 & 6 hours by public transport. But if I don't go there it means a trip/s to the UK and then travelling around England from North to South to do all of my research. The LDS films have saved me a lot of traipsing about England and as they are films of the original registers made at the relevant record offices and archives in the UK they are the best alternative. It beats waiting about for the various CROs to get the things online. Regards Jenny DeAngelis Spain. <<My local LDS library is in Ipswich and I can't manage to contact them, so it is very difficult unless you live in a major town or city (apart from Colchester which doesn't have an LDS) to access films at all. I'm hoping that funds allowing, Essex Record Office can film more parish registers in the near future>>
