Rather than complaining about what's not being published by Essex Records Office we should congratulate them on having a great online catalogue and publishing many of their records online saving the need for expensive trips. Some of the Records Office in the UK that have records of interest to me don't even have a decent online catalogue let alone publish copies of their BMD online. The economic crisis has hit all publicly owned institutions and ERO is no exception. It would have been easy to use the financial crisis as an excuse to stop the digitilisation but in the words of the original post it is really good news that it is continuing. As I understand it any BMD records shown in the Essex online catalogue will eventually be online. Of course the Non Conformist records still held by the relevant church or those who have been lodged with the National Records Office will not appear in this list. In the meantime members of Essex Family History Society, whop have an office at ERO, will be prepared to conduct searches at very reasonable rates. I look forward to seeing all of the BMD records, both Parish and Non Conformist held by Essex online. Peter Layzell
