David, Are sure that the IGI records you found were extracted entries and not Patron Submissions? Patron Submissions can be very misleading as members of the LDS, the patrons, work out their family trees and at times appear to bend things to fit what they think is the right person or family. When you find something in the IGI check the section on Messages to see what that says, it will tell you whether the details were part of an extraction programme or a patron submission. The extraction programme details can be trusted to some extent and you should then be able to find the entry in the parish register or Bishop's transcripts, dependant on where that record was extracted from by the LDS.
