Good question! I am transcribing Essex registers for the FreeReg project and understand there is some negotiation going on between them and Essex RO for us to retain free access to the online registers, although, as most of my interests lie in Essex, I will no doubt transcribe anyway and allow my subscription to Find My Past lapse.
