yes, thank you, Pat. Tower Hamlets is what I meant. quite tired last night, it would not come to mind, but I knew I had a good chance of forgetting it totally by morning. I have "lost" most of my Colchester family in 1841. my 3x great grandfather is visiting his mother in Colchester, but I have several clues that point me to Middlesex (or London) as his place of residence in the 1840's. in 1843 he immigrated to America. where were his wife and family in 1841? I have various places he may have lived, Tower Hamelets, St. George in the East, St. Leonard Shoreditch, St. Marylebone, St. George Hanover, Miles End Old Town (all Middlesex), but they don't show up anywhere in 1841 at Ancestry-except for my 3x great grandfather and his widowed mother. I do find his siblings families, but not his. the missing family members his eldest child, already married and with a family of his own; Joseph Aubrey Cross b. 13 Aug 1803, wife Rebecca (Sidnell), b. Spring, 1815 children; Joseph James b. 3 Oct 1834 Rebecca K. b. 13 Dec 1835 George William b. abt 1838 Aubrey Joseph b. abt 1838 maybe John P. b. 1841 Hannah Cross nee Smith b. 12 Dec 1785 of Colchester Maria Ann b. 27 Aug 1809 Colchester William H. b. 28 Sep 1811 Colchester John b. 2 Aug 1815 Colchester Hannah Lydia b. 13 Jan 1818 Colchester James b. 27 Jul 1820 Colchester Josiah A. b. 4 Oct 1822 Colchester none of the children listed with Hannah married until after immigrating to America. I have a lot of data on the Cross's, they're a heavily papertrailed line, but little of anything on Hannah Smith Cross, and no census for 1841 for her or any of her children. and while I'm here-who was Aubrey Cross b. abt 1793 of Miles End Old Town? I wonder if he is the person who Joseph Aubrey was named for, and how he fits into the family-if he does? thank you.
