Hello everyone, not my first time on this list but, it has been a long time. I am researching my wifes family name of SAPSFORD from Gt. Hallingbury, Essex. i have my wifes g.g.grandparents as Jesse SAPSFORD bc: 1811 and Elizabeth Ann PRIOR bc: 1811 at Gt. Hallingbury. I have searched the Gt. Hallingbury and Lt. Hallingbury Bishop Transcripts and did not find Jesse nor his parents. I have information( just received) on Elias SAPSFORD to be the father of Jesse but, this is not confirmed by any parish record. I did transcribe the BT's from Gt/Lt. Hallingbury for the name Sapsford and have them on file. Hopefully this puzzle will be put together over some time? If anyone has any information or is researching the name SAPSFORD i would be most pleased to hear from them. Bob
Jan, Do you have census records for her up to 1901? Or is it the patient records from the Asylum that you are searching for? G'day, This is my first message to this list. A relative died in 1914 in Essex Colchester Asylum at age 67. She had previously been a Governess at Ivydene, White Roothing, Essex. The cause of death was given as Mitral Disease which was said to be present before admission. She was Emily Charlotte HASKEW, a Spinster, who was born in 1847 in Liverpool, Lancs. As she was a sister to my great grandfather I would be very grateful for any guidance in researching her history. Thanks so much, Jan in sunny Queensland

Good on you Kevin. I have pub people and have found the site really good. It is good that you have taken over from Pubby who is sorely missed. This is quite useful to those with Pubby people, but is slowly expanding to include those who just want to know an address. The site covers historical pubs for all of Essex, London, Herts, Kent, Suffolk, and parts of Sussex and Middlesex. Many of these areas / counties have slowly been split into new sites, but I have managed to get the local search engine to search all of these sites. So, for example, my main interest is in Wilding & Littlechild, you can search most of the South East of England for these names, as far as pubs are concerned. You can also search for a particular street address, in the same search engine, still far from perfect, but hey ho. Finally, I will spend an immense amount of time on one pub / area, if there is new information. Especially non-copyright pictures (gold dust). If anyone is researching this name Re: Leyton, Essex, NSW Australia, London, Birmingham, Russia, Warsaw, Poland, Newcastle, Liverpool, USA or Canada please email me and I may be able to help with data. I'm particularly interested in linking the Australian, retired merchant, Levy Mandelson, living in 'Upstairs, Downstairs' style opulence in a mansion in Clarnicarde Gardens, Chelsea (with wife Sarah, nee Cohen, their 11 children and 5 servants - 1881 census) with 1. An identification of the three Samuel Mandelsons I've found in 20th century UK 2. Lady Judith Montefiore (nee Cohen) wife of Sir Moses Montefiore (Lord Rothschild's stockbroker) 3. Her sister, Baroness Hannah/Henrietta Rothschild (nee Cohen), who married Nathan Mayer Rothschild . I'm tracing various lines which end in a bit of confusion because they lead back to Samuels - and there were 3 or 4 of them, one was Australian, born in c 1875 and the son of Levy - but which of the 20th century Samuels is he? Thanks for your help. Colleen

Thanks for looking, Mick. It's strange as I have received your message via the list, but not my own ?? (I don't receive the digest). Looking for any info. on Stanley King and Emily Claydon who were married December quarter 1922 Chelmsford. Particularly looking for names of Emily's parents. Any help appreciated. Michelle
Hello List, I read David Vesey's request for Leigh on Sea photos and would like to add my request to the list also. I am related to Michael Tomlin and would love pictures of anything to do with Leigh. Thanks so much, Jennifer Canada
I did a Google search on Hildesheimer & Co Ltd and apparently they operated from about 1850 -1910. This would help narrow down the time line of the Swiss Cottage. The print on Ebay shows the cottage located adjacent to a river or watercourse possibly the River Roding. I have looked on Old-Maps but found nothing yet. I sometimes see postcards on Ebay showing an artist's impression of the Swiss Cottage in Wanstead. I lived in Wanstead for a long time and my mother was a resident from 1915-1978 and I don't remember any mention of this place. It looks as though it could be part of Wanstead Park (Wanstead House). Does anyone know of this place ?? Thank you Caroline
Michelle, ordering the marriage certificate will give you the name of Emily's father, her residence at time of marriage, her age, what she did for a living, whether or not she was married before and if they were married by Banns or Certificate. Nancy.
